Sweat guard on IWB - comments?
I notice some holsters have these and others do not. Any comments on this. Should I be concerned about this when looking for a new holster? I plan to wear a T-shirt between me and the holster just FYI.

I carry for the most part stainless , and in any event well maintained pistols . So for me its a matter of personal preferance with the sole point held out that if i lived in the south , and carryed any carbon steel gun then a sweat guard would be manditory . as would a second identical holster so i could " dry out " one while i wore one .

Are you carrying a weapon with a manual safety? If so, then you really ought to get a holster that covers the safety, which a sweat guard generally does quite nicely. Otherwise, I'd say it's personal preference.

More comfortable in my opinion with the sweat guard and slide shield.

I carry full size and commander 1911s so the sweat guard is a must. It keeps the thumb safety from digging into my side and also protects it from being released.

IWB: yes, very much so. I wear Sidearmor holsters and wifebeater (A-shirt) underneath. I like the sweatguard. Serves as a "shoe-horn" type device to help guide the muzzle in the holster during reholstering.
OWB: not so much. I carried a 1911 in a Galco Concealable and didn't feel uncomfy at all. |

I don't like them.
I like a plain, clear, top like on the Sparks Summer Special. I don't wear a T-shirt beeween the gun and myself. When people wonder if they will find an IWB holster comfortable or not, there are several things that can affect that- like ride height, carry angle, belt loop placement, etc. The sweat shield is just one more, and you won't know until you try. It is easier to cut one off than to add one though! |
