Safepacker at the Mall

I went to the mall this afternoon with my wife and three daughters.

As we rounded the turn from the entry corridor to the main section, a lady passed us going the opposite direction. She looked to be mid-40s, wearing jeans, a casual shirt, and sneakers. Soccer mom.

I noticed that on her belt at 3 o'clock was a Wilderness Safepacker. Her shirt was tucked in and the holster was in plain view of everyone.

I said to my wife, "Nice holster." By the time I got her to understand what I was saying and direct her to look at the subject, at least 10 seconds elapsed.

This lady never got a second glance from anyone.

Maybe that Safepacker is a better choice than I've given it credit for.

I don't guess I've seen one in person .. and probably wouldn't recognize it myself.

Good for her.

I like the looks of the thing but it just does not seem to be all that fast.

Step 1. reach for and grab buckle (down)

Step 2. unclick buckle, let go (up)

Step 3. move hand up and into pack (down)

Step 4. draw weapon (up)

My Tommy's Gun Pack has a similar process but there is no vertical movement until the gun is raised. With the SP you move down twice and up twice.

For those that have a SP how fast can you draw from it?

The front seam of the case is velcro, so you don't have to make that second 'up' movement. Just push the gun forward out of the holster.

I have one and don't think it is fast at all. Mine is relegated to softcase duty. I also think it is sort of cumbersome to wear on a belt and looks entirely conspicuous to me.

Well all of the other sheeple soccer moms were making fun of her for her, in their eyes, for her lack of fashion sense.

Hats off to her though. It may be slow but at least she has enough sense to be armed.

I have one, and like it for running out the door with no time to gear up. Or hiking, biking, some times if it is hot out I will put it on my belt.

It is not all that fast but every thing is a compromise.

Only one time did some one say some thing about it. I told the guy it was for my PDA (Personal Defense Assistant.) He stated it looked nice.

Living in Las Vegas means HOT summers, making any cover garment impractical. I've been limited to pocket carry of my Glock 26, which I don't really like. as it puts my keys and credit card wallet in my left pocket, which is just awkward for me. Or, carrying my XD45 in a fanny pack. I may consider getting one of the Safepackers.
