Question holster surgery help?

I bought a used Wilson Tigershark, sharkskin paddle holster for a 1911. I like the design, and it rides nicely, but it has 2 "wings" that come up to cover sights, hammer etc.
I have 3 1911's with ambi safetys. These spread the wings too far apart, and also make re-holstering difficult.

The holster would be perfect without the wings. Is it possible to "amputate" them and restitich? It is suede lined.

Generally speaking, I would recommend against "do it yourself" holster surgery. There are seemingly small details that can have a profound effect on the way a holster works.
The time involved will usually pretty much pay for a new holster that is more to your liking. Good luck!

Who makes the holsters for wilson combat?
Could the original maker modify it?

Well its the top part of the holster that is cut with extra room to cover the sights and what not? If thats the case, its not structurally critical. Mark is correct if its the plastic/leather laminate...then that can complicate it.
Shoot well and god bless....

If I'm think of the right holster, the one you are referring to is an off-shoot of a Safariland design, and may even be subcontract made by Safariland. If this is the case, part of the holster is synthetic. On the Safariland version, those wings you are referring to have a polymer core that is covered with leather (or Safariland's leather-like vinyl) and stitched around. You will likely have a hell of a time cutting thru it, and once you did I don't know how you'd finish it off to look half-way decent.
Good luck!

If by off chance there is no plastic or metal in the holster, a little remold could help. A little hot water on the trouble spots then put your gun in and mold it to it. You can find detailed instructions on various maker's sites (not mine, though).

RafterS for the most part. I guess like Mark said, Safariland could make this model tho.
