Holster break in..

Ok, since I got my permit Thursday, I didn't want to wait 20 weeks for a holster, so I bought one local.

I bought a Galco Fletch High Rise Belt Holster. I do like it. Maybe not as pretty as the custom jobs I see here, but I do still plan on getting a custom holster now that I can afford the wait.

My question is, this holster is tight. I followed the instructions to break it in as you would a baseball glove, working it back and forth by hand. I had to put it in a plastic bag and holster it several times, but now I am able to holster it with one hand (with a little thumb pressure on the slide or it moves back a little) and snap the thumb break with one hand.

Here is the problem. It is really sticky on the draw.

I have not wrapped it in plastic and then wax paper yet.

I wanted to get advice from you first.

Try the wax paper with the was side of the paper to the holster some with transfer and possible help with the stick

You can use some CRC Silicone spray to slick it up a bit, won't hurt the holster or the gun.

Actually, most silicones will hurt the holster. The evaporation process of the associated propellants dries out the natural oils in the leather and it will cause premature aging....cracking...etc.

Wrap it in wax paper for a night and then just use it. The best way to break in a holster is to simply use it.

Use it via drawing and wearing it like Eric said.

This is a good time to practice some drawing and dry firing drills. Help with the reflexes and it will help with the break in process. Stay safe.

The wax did the trick. And the extra drawing! It goes in and out real smooth now. I was sorta doubting this holster at first. The sales guy said it would be stiff and we could barely get a XD-45 Service into it in the store.

I agree with Mike, the practice does double duty for a new holster.
