holster primer?
I'm looking for a primer on holsters. What to look for, what models do what for you, basically how do you pick a holster for your needs. I am overwhelmed w/ styles and acronyms I don't understand. I also can't visualize how some of the models work in the catalogs I have received. I guess I need the carry holster basics before I ask more detailed questions. Any suggestions?

OK, here's a "Starter Kit" for you:
SH: Shoulder Holster OWB: Outside The Waistband IWB: Inside The Waistband Rake: The Angle the Gun Is Held At 3 O'Clock: Relates to where the gun is placed on the body with the navel being 12 O'Clock Ankle Carry: Gun Carried in an Ankle Holster Pocket Carry: Gun Carried in a Pocket in a Holster designed for this mode of Carry I hope that helps. Me, I carry an N-Frame Revolver with a 4" Barrel as my EDC. The trick to carrying such a big gun is a good Holster and Belt. You may wait up to a year to get a great Holster/Belt from a "Custom" maker, but it's worth it. I also carry one on my Ankle and one in the Pocket unless I'm wearing shorts. If I'm wearing Shorts, Ankle Carry is out. Biker ![]() |

Biker, What do you carry that "N" frame in? I have a GP100 w/4 inch barrel that I would like to carry at times and haven't come up with anything yet!

Most of our resident holster makers tend to focus on the Concealed Carry Holsters area of the Forum. If you post your question there you'd be more likely to get information from the professional makers.

Here is a search engine that lets you look for the holster you want from many of the more commercial makers, based on about a dozen or so different criteria, including weapon type.

Also, I think most of the custom holster makers (Particularly the ones on this forum), will help you.
I know I've asked my share of questions & they were answered. Gary of Brommeland holsters, in particular, says he does consultations & I know others have been helpful, too. Although I admit that's only helpful if you're considering one of their holsters. Is there a certain kind or material that you're considering & for what gun?
