Got any links for me to look at? I'd be interested in reading more about those.

I have a couple and really love them. they are secure and the release is in a very natural place as the index finger should be straight along the holster at that place anyway.

but I have no personal experience with the one for the j-frames. I know that a few guys at the shop use them and love them, but they usually open carry there.

I have one for my USPc.

Mine came with both a belt loop and a paddle attachment.

Imagine, if only connected to your belt, the stability of the holster is subject to the amount your belt will give. That is, it can sag if your belt isn't sturdy and tight. The paddle option uses more your body (your hip) for stability. So, I agree with rocky that the paddle is probably better at keeping it close and stable.

As far as concealability, I find it stays fairly close to the body and a jacket or a vest is adequate for concealing it.

I find it quick and easy to use as well as safe. The retention release button lies exactly where my finger tends to go -- just above the trigger guard on the slide. In fact, there is no way to release the retention if your finger is anywhere else.

I think that some of the negligent discharges associated with the SERPA were probably more the fault of the shooter than the holster. Again, the button is situated such that your finger should end up in on the slide of the firearm -- not within the trigger guard. In addition, the button does not require much pressure to disengage the retention so if your finger is wandering towards the trigger, you're doing something wrong.

I think the CQC SERPA is a well designed and well made holster. I say go for it.

I posted some thread links on page one. I understand some of the shootings could have been prevented, and to Blackhawks Credit they made some changes to the original holsters.

Got 3-40XD-c, USP-C 40 and Colt Comm. All very nice, very slick draw and great retention. Not good, for me, in CCW.

I tried one of those links but I didn't want to register to read them.

I thought about one of those, but it seemed to ride a little low for me.

I bought one for my 1911 and loved it so I tried to get one for my officer's model and no deal. I called the company and they confirmed it - no deal and no plans to make them. So I bought another (black matt finish) for a 5" 1911 and dremeled it down to fit my Officer's - worked great! (I had to dremel the inside sight track too because it did not fit my sight rib out of the box) I then bought one for my XD45 because I really like the retention yet speed of access. The XD is a little looser in the holster and the tension screw doesn't tighten any more - I wonder if this is really made for an XD or if they repackaged a Glock holster with a new label (It still works great).

I bought 2 mag holders and they are also top-notch. I was nervous reading about NDs with Glocks in Serpas so I talked to Blackhawk before buying the one for my XD and the rep convinced me that they were not inherently dangerous for guns with Glock-like triggers. Apparently some of the incidents reported as eing "caused" by the finger traveling off the serpa button and onto the trigger were not as reported initially. I was told one actually happened during RE-holstering (keep your finger off the trigger!). My finger naturally stays straight along the frame on the draw.

I do NOT like the carbon fiber option. That seems to just be a thin sheet of woven carbon fibers glued into the recessed portion of the holster. I scratched mine lightly and the scratch stayed. I don't see what purpose it serves - don't think it really adds to the esthetics. I love the option of using a paddle or belt loops; both fit very close to the body. I spend a lot of time in the desert along the Mexican border and I want quick access to 14 rounds of .45 ACP!

I'm with Jim on this.

I haven't carried much, so I can't speak for concealing it, however, for carrying around the house, I love my Serpa. I carry either my Sig 229 or my USPc in it, both without any problems.

When using my finger to release the holster, my finger naturally stays straight, along the frame, above the trigger guard, where it belongs.

I read those reports before and they both sounded like bad pistol handling, combined with the Glock trigger safety. I looked long and hard at my holster and there is no way that the retention device could interact with the trigger of the gun it is designed for. Now a pebble getting stuck I could believe, but that is a problem with any sort device with moving bits exposed to sand and dirt.

I dremeled and smoothed my Holster down to a 4" barrel size too. doesn't look bad and conceals a whole inch better than it did.
