Holster black dye Bleeding?
Can any of you fine holster makers tell me how I can stop the black dye from bleeding, and staining my slacks?
Is there a type of sealer available? Thanks in advance, Bill ~

Hhhmmm, not good.
If you don't have a Tandy Leather store near you, check with a local shoe repair shop. Try buffing the annoying area with a shoe-shine hair brush (or better yet ask the shoe repair guy if he's agreeable to hitting it on his buffing wheel) then look for Fiebing's Leather Sheen spray, Fiebing's Saddle Lac spray, or Tandy's Super Sheen spray. These are all clear acrylic aerosol products that you spray on, and will put a clear coating on the leather and hopefully prevent any further dye transfer. Let us know how you make out.

FWIW, Michaels and other large crafts stores often carry Tandy leather products, my local one does.

Id agree with Mark...buffing the leather and getting the oxidation off of it...after its done oxidizing completely is the most important step.
After that....Saddlelac or other sprays work pretty well. Use them lightly and give it a couple of layers, just to make sure you get good coverage. I use fiebings resolene or Angelus Clear acrylic mixed with water...it works better.....but it may be more than you need. Shoot well and god bless

This is one of those things that is much more easily prevented than cured. Buffing it completely and spraying might help - might not. I'd suggest contacting to maker for a replacement holster.

Thank You guys
Mark, Eric, & Gary,
Thanks for the quick reply. I tried brushing and buffing with a lint free cloth. A lot of the color came out, but not all of it. Since it seems endless, I contacted the maker and have returned the holster for replacement. Seemed like the thing to do. Thank you all again. This is more proof we, on this board, have a wealth of artisans. ![]() Bill

Had that happen to me on a business trip-forced to wear black slacks with brown socks.
