Extra mag

So I was looking at the thread with the pics of everyone's set up. How many people carry and extra mag all of the time? I know that I rarely carry an extra mag. Just want to see your thoughts on why to or why not to carry an extra mag.

This has been discussed a lot. Always always always carry an extra mag. Its not so much for the extra ammo, but its for malfunctions too.

I always carry at least 1 extra mag. I was taught this way and I just haven't changed. When I carry my G17 in a shoulder rig, I carry 2 extra mags so now I'm carrying 52 rounds on me.

Always one, often two. Sometimes 5, but only on very special occasions...

I do not as of yet trying to work on this. However I do always have two firearms on me. So if one were to stop working or run dry I have an second one close at hand.

On rare occassion I will have three, but this is rare.

I dunno, but an extra mag is a lot easier to carry. I would think that if you are going to go through the effort of carrying multiple guns you would carry a spare mag for your primary.
I see it as towing two cars around just in case one runs out of gas.

Yep, always.

As long as you know your ammo feeds reliably in your gun, your magazine is the most likely culprit in a jam.

Even if it's just in a pocket, it's pretty easy to carry at least 1 reload.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this Mitch Rosen double mag holster for 2 of my carry guns

It was recommeneded in this thread.

I may order something like this

from Comp-Tac in the interim if there is much of a wait from Rosen.

I always have one spare mag for the XD with me. I don't carry a spare mag for the P3AT - first, I don't have one, second, if I've worked my way through 25 rounds of .40, another 6 of .380 isn't going to do me any good. If all I could draw was the backup, I couldn't reload it without my strong hand - and if I had THAT, I would have drawn the XD.

I always carry an extra mag with me (often two). As Sixtwo said, it's as much for clearing malfunctions than it is for the extra ammo. A magazine is in many was the most troublesome and vulnerable part of a semi-auto firearm. Removing the magazine is also a part of clearance drills for Type 3 malfunctions, and it's a lot easier to shove a new one in than to try to keep a hold of and reinsert the one you pulled out.
