I try to buy the pants with the elastic in part of the waistband. I buy my regular size pants. I use an IWB holster with a xd40sc. THe xd is pretty thick and I have no problem.

Thanks for the reply---I forgot my rocket science cap, so I can not figure it out! If you read my thread it states that I am going to purchase a IWB holster, so I don't have one to try out. You are all excellent teachers, and I am just trying to learn, so keep teaching me!! Part of what I have learned is to be prepared, and that is what I was trying to do. It look like from the great advice that I received---probably need to purchase a few pair of new jeans in the next larger size so as to be ready when gun and holster show up. Thanks for all the great advice.

If you can fit your gun and your hand inside your waistband and still be comfortable that waist size will work for IWB.

I do have to upsize as well. My sister was standing behind me the other day and looked at my pants. She commented to my mom that they were too big and bunching in the back. Mom responded, that's cause his gun is on the outside and those pants were bought for it on the inside. I went from a 38 to a 40, YMMV.

i wear the expanding waist band style pants also cargo shorts with elastic waist band . this lets me go IWB with comfort. one thing everyone says is the right belt makes a diff . they are absolutely correct , but they neglect to tell you a longer belt also is needed . when i wear jeans i go OWB only, i might could go same size jeans IWB if it were SOB .

hope that helps
also keep your thick skin on around here . LOL

Personally I found that there was enough "give" in my jeans that I didn't have to up the size of my pants. But throw in a IWB mag holder or carry IWB with a tac light attached, and you run out of room real quick.

Ah, I just aim to lose a few pounds by the time my CPL gets here. Far cheaper than new pants.

Before buying new pants, see how it works with what you have in the closet. I find I'm okay with my standard size, but I don't wear them skin tight to begin with. Some of my snugger pants just won't do, so I pocket carry when using those. Depends on the cut & style. You can also take your rig discreetly into the fitting room and see how it works ( concealed of course )
