Perhaps its already been discussed here before , but ... what is the proceedure for breaking in a new leather holster that's a bit tight?

Wrap the gun once in wax paper, wax side "out", shove in holster overnight, and the next day, say, 100 practice draws or so. Welcome! Had a CPX myself once.

Also ........... wear it - and wear it ....... and wear it!!!

While the aforementioned wax paper deal sure helps - IMO also actually wearing it much as possible will also help slightly soften it and mould it to your belt and form.

Broke mine in over time. I found that rabbit hunting with the ole' carry pistol is great for drawing and holstering, which breaks that puppy in. >:)

Just use it....don't try to speed up the break in process or you may find yourself with a holster that does not retain your weapon securely... a SMALL amount of silicone spray on the interior of the holster will help smoothining up the first few drawers without excessively streching out the leather....the more you use it the faster it will break in....again do not attempt to accelerate the break in process. Quality leather takes time to break in.

Wear and practice your draw. If it is REALLY tight, you can do the wax paper wrap trick. An old stocking works well too. I would avoid putting anything on the leather, UNLESS instructed to do so by the maker.

I recently bought a Desantis OWB leather holster. The recommendation that came with the holster said to NEVER use any leather softeners or "break-in" fluids on the holster.

They stated that if the fit was to tight, to place your weapon in a dress sock and then in the holster for a day or so. I followed that suggestion, being careful that there were no wrinkles in the sock around the gun, and now have a nice fit.
