For me, the Wilderness Safepacker does very well with the backpack:

First, do you have to carry concealed where you are going? Sometimes in areas that are also used for hunting you don't have to conceal. If you must conceal why won't your normal mode of carry work? The backpack is after all on your back. It does restrict your arm movement but not entirely. It would mean some practice to get adjusted to it but I don't think it is unusable that way.

By the way, congratulations on getting your permit.

I've struggled with this... to no avail. That darned hip belt on the backpack was always in the wrong place.
I finally just gave up and bought a nylon (Uncle MIke's type) holster with a retaining strap and attached it the my backpack hip belt. I positioned at ~ 4 :30 . This kept it "mostly" out of view to all of the casual lookers.... Just my experience.... mike

It has a large adjustable loop on the back. It fits well on the hip belt of both of my large packs.

I have an internal frame pack that has a wide hip belt. On the outside of the belt is a zipper mesh pouch that can store a small auto. Other times I just carry OWB.

I carry non concealed, but us a drop leg holster. Any decent backpack belt strap will ride right about where a hip holster will fit. The safepacker looks like a good option. Shoulder rigs are difficult a access the gun.

I've been wearing the UCComfort holster tee with Sig P239 for several weeks now. I wear a daypack and they don't seem to get in each other's way.

I'm also curious if their new EXP Waistband Holster might work in this role.
