I carry my Glock 36 using a Tucker IWB when riding my Harley. I don't even imagine being able to draw and fire while on the move. Plus with the riding gear, (helmet, gloves, padded jacket) trying to draw, aim, and shoot (hopefully in that order) is next to impossible. The best bet is to use the maneuverability of the bike to your advantage and get out of harm's way.
Now if you could mount some rocket launchers fore and aft, then maybe it would be a different story. |

You can’t outrun a bullet
Regardless if I’m on the Harley or driving the car or pickup I always have a pistol on me. The only thing different is in the wintertime, I ware a jacket while riding the bike, and sometimes, carry the G19 or Walther PPK’s at 4 O’clock. Since motorcycle jackets are somewhat shorter the bottom end of my holster sometimes shows when I lean forward. But, on a Harley I ride sitting up, so that does not happen too often, and for the most part I don’t care if the holster does show sometimes. During the summer months, I carry the little Kel-Tec 380 in my strong side back pocket just like I normally do. A Harley is by no means a screaming machine, and even if I was on one, I would not try to out run an auto, that could result in a wreck. I agree with others, I always stop at a traffic light far enough back to leave room so I won’t be pinned in. More for evading a car behind me, that was not stopping, than fleeing an aggressor. But I guess it would work the same. Just like anything else being prepaid and prevention is the key When touring and I find myself in a bad neighborhood, I try to stay on a four lane road, and get out of that area as quickly as possible... While doing so, I try to slow down when I see a red light up ahead so, as not to have to stop. Be aware of your surrounding and if someone starts walking your way, get out of there then, don’t wait until you have a pistol stuck up against you head. Keep the shinny side up. |

Lifelong rider here, mostly old pre-evo H-D's.
I couldn't think up any far-fetched scenario's where I would want to draw and fire from a moving MC. The pistol is for before and after the riding part. I would use the motorcycle's speed and manuverability to get out of trouble. If I had to shoot for some reason, I would be off the bike. I carry a 1911 IWB at about 3:30. My old-school leather jacket covers it really well most of the time, and in summer my leather vest. Once in a while, the jacket or vest might ride up and expose the grip. Funny thing, I can almost tell when that happens, as the cage drivers may never notice a biker, but always see the BIKER WITH A GUN. No, I'm not brandishing, it's just that sometimes yer bra strap shows from time to time... Doug |

2005 CBR1000RR Repsol here, and I wear full leathers. I also wear an Uncle Mike's vertical shoulder holster which carries my XD-45 within easy reach, right under my left arm. It doesn't interfere with riding one bit, but it can be a little awkward off the bike. However, when wearing full leathers you don't really stand straight up, and few people expect anyone to be carrying underneath leathers. I also get to keep the second magazine under my right arm, so I have 27 rounds of .45ACP at my disposal. I don't plan to invoke that option while I still have a chance to get the hell out of Dodge; but you have to be ready for all contingencies...
Cheers! M2 |

As with others, I am very comfortable with a shoulder holster on my bike (I ride a ZRX, so I sit upright with a SLIGHT forward cant to my body). This is easily accessable and the only drawback is that my hand must leave the throttle to draw. Fortunately, I can imagine VERY few scenarios where I would ever draw my weapon while moving (if I'm already rolling and my feet are on the pegs when a situation arises, that problem is a dot in my rearviews in the blink of an eye).
There isn't any doubt in my mind that I can outrun anything that isn't another motorcycle (which might be the only situation you would ever have to draw while maintaining speed). Another reason for shoulder holster carry is that sometimes a jacket can creep up, especially if you tuck at all on the bike. Having your 'concealed' weapon hanging out as you roll by motorists doesn't make for the best feeling when you stop and discover it. In Kentucky, Open Carry is legal, but I prefer to keep it quiet, just like my forum mates.

The only time I had a jacket ride up was when I borrowed my dad's joe rocket textile during the summer. I had a county mountie behind me for several miles before I got home and my brother told me the jacket had uncovered the entire pistol.

Inside leather vest pocket. Even in cold weather as the vest goes on over my jacket.

I'm always fully leathered too, and I carry my Glock 26 in a Galco Jackass shoulder rig with two spare mags on the other side. I usually ride with my jacket unzipped just a little for air flow, you can't see my pistol but I could reach in and snag it quickly.
One think to consider is using a holster with some type of retention to avoid the sliding puck scenario mentioned in another post.
