I think there is a great difference between stock IWB and custom IWB. I can have a custom IWB made to fit me. I can never seem to get the same fit for the stock IWB. Though I do not see the difference for an OWB job.

Not necessarily.... A lot of the custom guys will guarantee your satisfaction as long as you aren't asking for something extremely customized, like initials or some funky cant. I just want my customers to be happy with their carry gear, and use it for a long, long time. I know Nate at UBG is really good about customer satisfaction, and I've heard Bruce Gibson will bend over backwards to make you happy. You might even ask Mr. Kanaley for advice on what to carry - He has outfitted a lot of folks for a long time, and I'll bet he can at least point you in the right direction after you tell him what you are trying to do.

Obviously holsters are as individual as the person wearing them!
There are some great mass produced holsters with some A+ manufacturers out there. Bianchi, Galco, DeSantis and others have been producing and filling a need for quality holsters for decades. And many of their models will work just fine for almost everyone. And yet you can find crap holsters in everyones line up. Either in design, fit, comfort or any number of other reasons. The same is true with "Custom" made holsters. There are truly some master craftsmen out there turning out some of the best leather. And yet, if you fail to research properly, communicate your needs to the maker adequately, you can get a holster from a custom made craftsman that will absolutely be worthless to your needs. The good thing about a custom holster is you can more often than not get what you want. They can tweak their design and adjust features to fit your specific needs or taste that you just can't get with a mass produced holster. Also most custom holster makers have a better or unique warranty on the holsters they make that reflect the pride of their work and desire to make their customers happy and safe. Bottom line... are custom holsters better? Not Always! Is there a decernable difference between a custom holster and a mass produced? Not necessarily... Not if you don't do the proper research or know how to communicate your needs to the craftsman making your holster. Is the extra price and wait time with a custom holster worth it? If you do your research correctly and what you get works for you... Absolutely! Again, holsters are as individual as the person buying it. Most mass producers will make something that usually fit your needs just fine. But a true custom holster made with care and to your needs will usually be a worthy investment that you can confidently stake your life on! As with a lot of things in life... the key to everything is doing proper Research, Research and more Research. JMHO, YMMV

Not slamming Bianchi either but, I personally saw one brand new rig that had this strange mushy, large patch of soft leather with little wiggly bug trail marks on the flesh side. The area (right on the holster face) felt almost deteriorated.
That is something that Kanaley and the other top rig makers would never let out of their respective shops but, it somehow passed the Bianchi final inspection. For me...I'll stick with custom makers if only just for the added confidence of knowing that somebody reachable, personable, and accountable is taking a serious individual interest in seeing to it that I get the finest rig for my dollar as is possible. To me that's an important difference.
