Talking I Was Almost Discovered

Today I went to Wally World with my wife and trusted Glock using my M-Tac IWB. I have only been carrying a few weeks. So far I have found 4 o'clock to be a great position. Hardly even know it's there anymore. Suddenly, our names are called out and we see someone that we had not seen in a long time. I knew what was coming next--FIRST, a "how are you guys doing?" followed SECOND by one of those "SOUTHERN HUGS." I found myself wanting to disappear quickly. When it came time for me to get my hug, I did my best to keep my right elbow up and away from my side in order to keep the individual from putting me in one of those BEAR HUGS that goes on forever since they had not seen us in a long time. Let me just say that I was "very uncomfortable" and tried to come up with what would I say if that individual's hand had slipped down and inadvertantly touched my "new friend."

How does anyone else handle this type situation? And trust me when I say that there is no getting away from receiving one of those hugs. You are going to get it regardless. It all goes with "LIVING IN THE SOUTH."

Keep your right elbow at your hip and you hug around their waist, and they will naturally come in at shoulder level.

Just stand back, let out a loud, whizzing cough, and say loudly, "contagious!"

Personally, I have no problem with friends or relatives knowing I'm carrying. If they have an issue, they'll bring it up later and we can discuss it.

"Hug low"

The pre-emptive low hug should usually take care of these awkward moments

hug them from your left side and keep your right arm free to protect your "new friend."

I tuck in my right arm and go low. I have been known to actually move someones hand up a bit if I know they're going for "that area". There are just some people I DO NOT want to know I carry.

I'm another "go low" kind of person. I don't particularly liked being hugged but when I see it coming I go for a preemptive move with my right elbow at my side above ol' faithful and reach low, forcing the other person high.

Now what would be fun is to see a bunch of old ccw hands going for "hugs all around". Heheheee! Would probably look like the start of a sumo match or something!

I'm 6'4" so I use the one armed hug on my weak side, you still have to guard the gun with your other elbow though. I worry mostly about friends kids, they go for the waist and will out you faster than anyone.
