OK, I admit I am a CTAC apologist.....best holster going IMO. But I am intrigued by the MTAC and want to ask a question, preferably from someone who has worn both but defintely from a current owner. Do you get the same feeling of the weapon "clicking" into place when you holster in, and is the draw the same speed as the CTAC? I know I can order one and try it but I'd rather not waste time. Also, how is the holster comfort wise without an undershirt?

A Comp-Tac CTAC is a very popular kydex IWB holster around here.....my favorite actually. The MTAC is a new version, half leather, half kydex.

For what it's worth: Never worn the CTAC but have the MTAC, it has the snap upon holstering that you described - very secure but without inhibiting the draw, comfortable without a undershirt between it and me - in fact I've never worn a T-shirt with mine except in tuckable mode.

I just feel like chatting.

I do not own the CTAC. I do have the MTAC. It is comfortable and the gun is quite secure. Personally, I find that style holster difficult to put on and I use it only when I need to use the tuckable mode. Nobody has yet asked what the clips on my belt are for.

It is a lot of leather for my gun (XD9SC.) I have read that some trim the excess leather.

It is a good holster and you can get it in less than a week.

To me, the CTAC has a more positive "click" when the retention kicks in. The kydex on the MTAC is much thinner than on the CTAC, it flexes more.

The M leather backing does not conform to the gun and the draw has more drag. Reholstering is trickier as well.

MTAC is the hands down winner in comfort.

I think I'll chat too....

I have both the CTAC and MTAC for each of my carry guns... the C-Tac's are all in my holster box. I carry IWB about 80% of the time, and the MTAC is a winner in both comfort and retention.

I have a G-code belt holsster and a M-tac for my commander. I like the smoothness of the draw and the solid click of the G-code, but I like the comfort of carrying the M-tac. I have 3 complaints with the M-tac, but I will keep wearing it for now. 1. the sweatsheild is to low, it keeps catching my thumbsaftey when reholstering 2. I feel the side wings should be farther apart. I'm lefthanded and carry at 8:30 with forward cant front clip to close to gun. 3. the bottom of molded piece bent in so I cann't use with a 5". I hope this helps

For the past 6 months, I've used a CTAC for my CCO-style 1911. About an hour ago, I got an MTAC for a Glock 19. Here are my thoughts (obviously just initial impressions on the MTAC).

The CTAC worked very well. I never had a problem with it up against bare skin the few times that I didn't wear an undershirt (which is a complaint some people have). It had good retention. Overall, it was very comfortable. There were times when the lug on the front strut dug into my side. I suppose I could easily cover it with some moleskin, but it didn't happen often enough to motivate me to do so. It was very easy to get on and off. I did notice it sliding around on my belt some. Also, it was totally quiet to wear (vs. the 'creak' of leather).

I tried the MTAC on as soon as it arrived. I don't have my Glock 19 yet, but I do have a 27 (sub-compact). One thing I noticed was that I have no problem getting a grip on the small frame of the G27. The leather is cut in a way that it is very accessible. There is a positive click when I insert the gun - maybe even more so than my CTAC. But, this is comparing different guns and I never adjusted the CTAC to try and get a better grip. From the limited time I've had it on, it is very comfortable. Is it more comfortable than the CTAC? Hard to say at this point. Again, I found the CTAC comfortable. On the plus side, the MTAC's design does not have the potential of a lug digging into my side. All of the metal is covered. And, it seems like the leather itself and especially the section that is rough side out will keep the MTAC from sliding around on a belt.

One thing I did notice right, that I hadn't experienced since I got rid of a mid-level custom leather holster - the "creak" of leather. When I moved around, it was pretty noticeable. One more thing, and I don't know how much of this is the holster and how much is the G27. My Glock sticks out more than my 1911 did. I know the Glock is wider. I'm wondering how much of aa difference the extra with of the MTAC's leather backing makes (compared to the kydex of the CTAC).

At this point, I think I'm going to order a CTAC for my Glock and do a head to head comparison.

Oh, one thing I forgot about the CTAC - with my 1911, the mag release would get pushed from time to time. There is a shield that is supposed to keep this from happening, but my gun would go down past the point where the shield stuck out to allow room. I tried tightening the tension. It made it harder for the gun to go down that far, but the holster design still allowed for it to happen. And, with the tension tighter, the draw was much too difficult.
