New to this forum and kydex in general

Hello, I hate to ask for info in a first post, but here goes! Exactly how bad is kydex holster material at wearing the finish off of a gun? Blued, hard chromed, Gunkoted, stainless, etc. Thanks in advance.

Kydex is nicer to the finish than leather.

Always remember this though; A carried gun is a tool, it will show wear. If you are afraid of wear then carry a different gun.

Really? The kydex ones I looked at seemed very "scratchy" when holstering the gun. I've heard leather can be bad because grit can get stuck in it which essentially sands the gun. Leather also retains moisture, which can cause rust, too.

Firstly - Welcome to the forum. Glad that you decided to join in.

Properly Applied Hard Chrome is pretty Indestructible.

Stainless steel will "burnish" but, can easily be put back to original as Stainless is not a finish but, is solid Stainless steel.

Gun Blue...Black Oxide...Parkerizing & GunKote will eventually show wear at the firearm contact points in leather or Kydex.

It's unavoidable...especially if you intend to practice drawing your firearm.
Which you should.

Thanks for the help guys! I guess I'll try a kydex holster and deal with possible refinishing issues down the road. Sounds like I'd have to do that with either option anyway. I like the fact that kydex holsters are so inexpensive and readily available, unlike some leather manufacturers.
