Made my own, JFrame, Leatherman, Buck
Ladies and gentlemen,
A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to save some green and make my own. Spent $55 from Texas Knifemakers and made an IWB for my JFrame, a holster for my Leatherman Charge, and a Buck fixed blade from one 12"x12" sheet of .060 black kydex. They are not the best in the world but for about $10 in materials and about 2 hours in labor, I think that they are a good first try. Anybody have some ideas on how to do them better, let me know. Also if you live in the Newport News, VA area and want to pay for materials, I'll take on any project you want for just the cost of materials (no profit, not an add to make money, I'll even let you buy the materials to prove it) I just want to practice. Thanks, CPTD |

Those look good. I know there are a couple members here who have spent some time with kydex. I'm sure someone can get you some tips.

Ghettokracker71, I lived in Chester a few years ago, in fact I was married in the Chesterfield county courthouse by santa!!!
IF you ever get down this way let me know and I'll hook you up. If I can't get it done on a weekend, I'd just need your piece for a week or two in order to get it made and finished. Thanks for the comments. CPTD |

Not too bad for a first attempt. I have worked kydex for about a year now. Some of the other guys sure seem to have knack for jumping in and perfecting it though. If yuo searcht he forum for "kydex" it should give you a few theads to see how others make holsters .

Very cool. Nice job on making all three. How are they working out?

Practice. Kydex has a memory. Form it, don't like it, re-heat it and you have a flat sheet again.
A band saw with a really narrow blade is nice to have, as well as a toaster oven and a heat gun. Be careful where you put the rivets internally for things like the belt clips, so they do not scratch the weapon. A sish-kabob (sp) stick taped to the top rail helps with the sight channel. Looks good. There is a company that sells the Kydex cheaper than the knife maker stores, but there is a $50 minimum order.

If you search Kydex on google you will find many wholesalers, but there is usually a minimum order.
