I think that any gun riding in a holster for long enough is going to show some kind of wear after a while. Kydex may wear less in the long run if you are concerned about it. Maybe somebody that's had a kydex holster for a while can chime in about this. Or maybe a leather holster with the smooth side in. |

I thought I'd give an update to what I decided, at temporarily. Yesterday I asked about a good holster at the range I go to and they suggested a WRB so this is the one I bought: In The Pants Holster / Under Shirt. I put it on today inside my pants on the right toward the rear and I couldn't see the gun. Just a slight bump in my shirt but that's only because I knew what it was. I also tried in the small of my back and the same thing. For $24 and the fact it's guaranteed for life... I think I made a good first choice. Now all I have to do is wait for the form to come in from Tx DPS, mail it in a get my license.

Not to rain on your choice but you get what you pay for. The holster has no retention and will probably rock forward and back during wearing it. It may be O.K. , but a better holster will definitely work better and last a lifetime.
Hope that holster will work for you for now, maybe try wearing it around the house when ever possible to see how well it works out before venturing out.

Yeah, I hear that. I plan on wearing it around the house to see how it works but it really seemed nice and tight. One of the guy's at the range uses this exact holster for years carrying a 1911 with no problems. Come to think of it, most of the people that work at this range use them and swear by them for everything from Glocks to Sigs and full size 1911s. I might see if I can get one with the thumb break though but they didn't have one of those in stock. This one wouldn't budge wearing it in front of the mirror as I mad esure my belt was tight enough. I was able to cant it forward a little though and that made it harder to see but I couldn't move it too much. I just ordered some 2" tubular webbing (for rock climbing) so i can try to make a belt using that. Right now my belt is every day 2" nylon webbing and it doesn't move at all, no matter how tight or loose. It might make a difference while carrying but I can't see how. I can tighten the belt as much or as little as I want and the webbing is ribbed so it won't slide. In fact, it's made to not slide, and nylon is a lot cheaper than leather. The 2" tubular webbing has a strength of about 8,000 pounds. Remember also, the holster is gauranteed for life. Anything goes wrong, it'll be repaired or replaced free of charge. I'd hate to be another one of those people who has six or seven holsters in their safe because they kept buying one after another looking for the one that works best... and paying an arm and a leg for each one and waiting months and months to get them. This was readily available and was cheap. If it doesn't work in the long run, I wasted $24. I can't see myself using it in the small of my back because the back pad I have on the motorcycle seat would make it very uncomfortable, IWB seems that's the best way to carry this one. Thanks for the suggestions though on what to look out for.

I thought I'd post an update. I got the Safariland 6377 for my Px4 this past Tuesday and what a great holster.... but I broke it within an hour. I tried to tighten the retention screw to see if pulling the gun out would be harder after hitting the 'trigger'. Well, it was already tight but I didn't know that and made it so tight I couldn't loosen it. I ended up stripping the allen key headed screw while trying to loosen it and had to use an easy out and then drill out the threaded portion of the screw from behind. The good news is I emailed them and told them what happened and asked if I could buy a new screw (since I didn't want to go all over them place looking for an exact replacement). The woman I emailed told me she'd just send me one as a 'replacement part', no charge and will email me when it was sent out with the tracking information. I am so happy I'm doing business with Safariland. They seem like a real reputable company that stands behind their products, which is so hard to find these days and even more so, they do what they promise and stand behind their time-line. Since I can shoot righty and lefty, I think I'll order another one for the left side but this one will be in the carbon fiber finish.
Another update: For a belt, I decided to try the cheap way and use 2" tubular webbing, used for rock climbing and a plastic belt clip. It works GREAT!. I tried using this 'belt system' with both the WRB IWB holster and the Safariland and neither holster budges AT ALL. It's sturdy on my hips and I can make it as tight as I need it. I ordered the webbing and clips from Campmor. If anyone wants more details, feel free to email me. When I ordered it, I made sure to call them, not order over the Internet because on their site they don't offer a choice of color. I called and asked if they could send me one of five specific colors because I didn't want an odd ball color like green, orange or purple with blue polka dots. My color choices were black, brown, tan, blue or red, in that order and I asked if they couldn't do it to not ship the order. They said they would try and try they did. They sent me black. I ordered 10 feet and .79 per foot and cut it down to fit. I ordered extra so I could make another belt and have some left over for misc needs. If you think about it, this is actually the best material to use as a belt for concealed carry because this is what they use for tactical rigs (actually they use a poorer quality webbing for those) and webbing used for rock climbing is designed to not slip or stretch and since it's made of nylon, it won't deform when wet, it's cheap to replace and the color won't fade with use or dampness. It might not look pretty but hey, no one's supposed to see it anyway, right?

I apologize for my ignorance but what's a crossbreed holster? UPDATE: Forget I asked, I found it. I put a scratch on my slide from trying to put my Px4 in the holster while wearing it from the metal clip on the outside. Thinking back, I probably could just put the clip between the pants and the belt, right? I guess a spacer that keeps the holster opn would be a good thing. Maybe something can be fabricated to attach to the outside of the WRBs to keep them open, sort of like the metal they use for the clips. That seems to be a nice strong metal they use and it's thin enough where they should be able to sew it inside the top rim of the holster. Just an observation.
Anyway, the reason I want a thumb break holster is I ride a motorcycle exclusively, I don't own a car and I feel the pistol might ride up enough to fall out of the holster while I'm riding. But I do understand why for most people a thumb break on a holster would be a bad thing. ![]() The reason I applied for my CHL, here in Texas, is so I don't have to leave the gun locked under the seat of my bike if I stop somewhere either on my way to or from the range. There will be times though when I think I will just want to carry; like if I have to go to or through a bad area like Stop Six or when I'm out at night but for the most part I don't really think I'd have to carry all the time because first of all, I don't get out often (I'm disabled) and I'm usually in areas with a lot of people. That's what I say now though... my opinion might change once I actually get my license. I applied on-line almost three weeks ago, took the class two weeks ago and mailed in my forms from Tx DPS last Tuesday, certified/return receipt. I figure I'll start checking on-line of the status on my license next Tuesday (the 13th) and every week after that. My instructor said at least a month from the time you mail it out but they had two weeks to start the background checks so I figure what the heck. It doesn't cost me anything to check and it will give me something to do for five minutes. That's five minutes less of me looking for something to do with all my spare time. ![]() Thanks for your input.
