Options request - Glock 17 holster mishap
So, once again I need help. Needing a holster for an upcoming course, my dad decided on a Raven Concealment Phantom for his Glock 17. Great choice. Not gonna come in time. I'm starting to sense a pattern here.
Currently, he has a cheapy nylon thing used for storage. Looking for something that's in stock somewhere, I'm wondering if a BlackHawk CQC Level 1 Holster would be appropriate. Thumb breaks and locks are a no-go, and he has no preference towards kydex or leather (whatever's cheaper, ultimately). Suggestions? -B |

That should serve well for a training course. May not be THE best for cc, but should be fine for a class.
Who's the instructor, where/when? just out of curiosity. I live in Riverview so I 'm always keeping an ear out for good training. Dan |

You could also check out the rigs 'hands on' at ShootStraight Tampa at 301 and MLK, or Patriot Arms on 60 in Brandon.

Give Comp-Tac a call and see what they have in stock...they make very decent holsters and generally have a very fast ship time.

Yeah, it's not a concealment holster but just something to get my dad through the class. The Comp-Tac holsters look good, but I don't know if he's canceled his RCS order or not. If he hasn't, then I'd rather he get a "good-enough" holster because a great holster is on the way.
jdsumner, the class is in Virginia. Not exactly a quick drive over. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll chat 'em up and see if we both don't take a day off early to go touch-and-feel.-B |

My suggestion would have been Comp Tac also. Great holster and lightning fast delivery.

If he does go BH CQC I would recommend a paddle over the belt slide. I feel the paddle holds the gun closer to my body and distributes the weight better.

Check with Gunners Alley and see if they have any Don Hume H721 OT... far price and they usually carry holsters in stock... it's worth a try.

Looks like he didn't cancel the order and is going to get the Blackhawk. If ShootStraight has 'em in stock we'll wait until the last minute (RCS said it should come right about when we're supposed to be flying out), otherwise we'll order from someone who has one in stock and get it here pronto.
For those who are familiar with Comp-Tac, how are their mag pouches? -B |

Glad to hear there WAS no mishap
as I surmised from the title! For something quick and cheap, why not have a look at Galco's new Matrix paddle style. Should be in stock and ship quick. Check L.A. Police Gear and Product Wizard for great prices on Galco, but if it's not in stock, it might not get there in time. If they say it's coming in a few days, don't believe it. Only order if in stock (Galco probably does have it, but it'd cost a bit more). As another alternative, even the dreaded Fobus paddle might be an option, after all, it's just a weekend course (shhh.... don't tell anyone I suggested that holster! Shhh.....). ![]()
