My new rig is almost here...

Here's what I should be receiving this week minus the gun, mag and light. Its a 1.5" horse-hide belt from Jim "The Beltman" Speidel, and an OWB holster and mag/light holder that was dyed the same color and trimmed in black shark by Tim Thurner of TT Gun Leather.

I can't wait to get my paws on it to see if it looks as good in person as it does in the picture. Tim worked with me on this mag/light holder to make it look similar to the holster. He also took on a pretty big challenge to match a different dye than he uses on different material. I think it turned out great. Special thanks to both Jim and Tim for their help.

Very nice. Too bad you can't show it off in public.

Wow! That's a great looking rig all the way around (and a 1911, too).

Man, that's a great looking rig! How did you get Tim to match the leather? Did he work with Jim or did you just describe the color to him?

The reason I ask is that I've got one of Jim's belts in that color, which I really like, and I have a heck of a time getting holsters to match. So many of the brown/cordovan holsters I've gotten lately are so much darker than the belt that I'm going to have to order another belt in a darker color to match. Everything was easier when I only used black leather rigs, but since I've started trying to buy some brown/mahogany/burgundy stuff I haven't had much luck. I buy so many holsters from different makers that I don't want to keep buying belts every time.

I called and talked with Beltman (Jim) and TT Leather (Tim) both before I decided. I decided it would be better for Tim to try and match the belt rather than Jim match the holster, and Jim only had a 3 week lead time. That being said, Jim was nice enough to send my belt directly to Tim after it was finished, that way Tim could try his best to match it in his hands instead of via pictures. I went into it figuring that it would not be a 100% match. Between them using different dyes, and the horse-hide versus cow-hide issue, I definitely wasn't looking for perfection. But by the pics he took, its damn close in my book. Tim actually had to make another mag/light holder because the dye didn't match as well as he wanted. I'll definitely be ordering more from him in the future. My SIG is feeling left out.
