I thought you were referring to the Fatboy in regards to the size of the pocket. I was under the impression that the Jumbo was more suitable based on your post. I figured there was a different reason for not liking the Jumbo.

+1 to the comments on the Jumbo. I got that one as a portable range-bag for outdoor matches, and, even with the name Jumbo, it is not that big. The concealment compartment carries my SIG P220 without a lot of room to spare. If you have anything bigger than a compact, I'd super-size it.

I've never carried the Versipack, but I am a Fatboy

I like mine

The zipper for the concealed weapon is 9 1/2 inches. The depth of the compartment is 9 inches. I bought mine to get me to and from work as I commute by bicycle. It is big enough to carry my lunch, my gun, water, wallet and so on. I used to use a backpack but clearly you wouldn't be able to get to your gun in a hurry. no one would have a clue that you were carrying a pistol in this pack.

My wife carries her Ruger SP-101 snubby in her Fatboy and loves it.

It can hold my XD9sc without any problems on the draw with her slender hands but I have yet to try it out myself to see if it works for me.

I have carried the Jumbo (previously called the Jumbo Fat Boy) for somewhat more than two years and can attest that it is a very, very good tool. Everything that Maxpedition makes tends to be overbuilt for the purpose which makes for a bag that is both well built and which will withstand hard use.

The gun pocket is huge. It will accommodate a full size 1911 and my XD45 Service fits quite nicely with room for an extra large ammo mag. I just can't give the velcro "holster" that they sell as an extra my whole hearted endorsement. It works, but just barely. There are other velcro backed holsters available that to the job better.

Overall the Jumbo is an outstanding carry bag and I recommend it highly.

I was thinking of getting a Crossbreed Ohai to replace the nylon strap holster...
