Versipack Fatboy info

What are the dimensions of the pocket that is advertised for CCW? I have read differing reports and would like first-hand info. I especially want to know the length of the zipper. Thanks!

Maxpedition Fatboy

I don't have this one, I do have the smaller Thermite, which works quite well as a CCW carrier. It does not have much space for other things aside from a couple of mags and small items.
Have you tried phoning customer service at Maxpedition? they seem to have an online reputation for good service.

I have owned both the Fatboy and the Jumbo Fatboy, if you intend to carry a medium sized weapon, or should I say, you are not intending to carry a small weapon (ie: J frame or small auto), I strongly recommend you get the Jumbo Fatboy. It's quite tight getting your hand in the zippered pocket of the Fatboy and the Fatboy's pocket was too small for my G-23. The Jumbo Fatboy was much better in that regard.

Thanks for posting this question and thanks for the responses. I'm going to leech the advice since I've been considering the very same pack for my dayhikes with the family. Sounds like my XD45 is going to have a tough time in the regular fatboy...

Thanks for the info! I thought about calling the company but I much prefer to have others do my work for me!

I was a bit misled by the picture of the Beretta on Maxpedition's page. That gun (if it's the compact) would barely fit in that pack! I bought a Fatboy only to have to sell it and buy the Jumbo... I later got rid of that too.

Hmmm...this IS confusing! The review from American Handgunner states it has a "semi-secret pocket that will neatly hold a full sized 1911-type gun." http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/Review/AH0304.jpg

Thumper...what didn't you like about the Jumbo?

I'd hate to be seen wearing something that said "Jumbo Fatboy" on it...

That would suck.

I had to double check, it looks like the big version of the fatboy versipack is just called the jumbo versipack unless I'm mistaken. I'm okay with labeling myself Jumbo... but not Jumbo Fatboy...

The size of the gun pocket, like I said in my first post. Mine wouldn't zip with a Commander sized 1911. Too small for me to get a grip on my G-23 and pull the weapon out through the zipper.

Just be sure to buy it from a place that takes returns!
