I was wondering how many of you guys use the biggest belt that will fit into your OWB "holes/slots" on your holster. I just ordered a Don Hume Open Top OWB holster & it has 1.75" slots. The biggest belt I own is 1.5" wide. I am wondering if I will need a 1.75" wide belt to make the fit really snug.

Holster slots are meant to fit a particular belt. Using a smaller belt will result in a sloppy carry and tougher draw.

Depending how thick the slots are and how thick the belt is, you MIGHT be okay with a 1.5" belt. I would probably check the holster out with the belt when I get it and then order a new belt if necessary.

I suppose it depends somewhat on what the style of belt is. A 1&3/4" belt is getting pretty wide for dress use but not for casual or duty use.

Also depends on how often you will be taking the holster off of the belt. A belt that barely fits through the slots would be a pain to remove often. Also, a nice dress belt can be bunged up pretty bad through putting it through tight slots often.

It seems to me that a "little" room is desirable. If the holster is designed well, it should still ride well. If it flops because of 1/4" with those size belt options' differences, it is a poorly designed belt IMO.

I've seen these things through some experience, even though I am relatively new to this.

Have to agree. My 1 1/2" belt is too thick to bother trying to thread through the 1 1/2" slots in my OWB. I use a sturdy thinner belt (made by the Amish) and my OWB rides and fits just right.

I have no problem using thick 1.25" belts with my holsters, all of which have 1.5" loops. I do not find that the holster moves or flops.
An OWB holster, especially one which has a wide distance between loops, is not the same shape as your body. When the belt is tightened the holster deforms and forms to the shape of your body. That tightens the holster, and the small difference of 1/4" makes no difference in my experience.

It requires a good thick belt. I use RafterS which are maybe thicker than most.

I doubt a 1.25" belt would work well with a holster with 1.75 belt loops, however. Probably 1/4 inch difference is the greatest difference that would work.

Before I started to wear a holster I could only see myself wearing a 1.25" belt, and my first gun belt was a 1.25", but since I purchased a 1.5" belt I almost exclusively wear the 1.5" belt. I usually wear my 1.25" belt around the house or going to work, since I can't carry at work.
