One reason is as you mentioned they are easier to put on and take off. Most are anyway.

I also feel that because of the paddle portion of the holster, they are much more stable than a belt holster. They support the gun better in my opinion.

As long as you do not wear your belt loose, the holster is every bit as secure as a belt holster. That is, as long as you use the right kind of paddle holster.

I own several Fobus paddles and I use them around the house or on the range mostly. I will use them for concealed carry, but not open carry which I do a lot of the time in the summer around here.

For open carry or really secure CCW, I recommend a Blackhawk SERPA holster. They grasp the belt both above and below with sturdy hooks. I have actually been lifted up off my feet by a holstered Glco "Blue" training gun in my every day carry SERPA. That holster will not slip around of come out of the pants. It's great. I have run with mine on, done all manner of physical labor, crawled, and even stood on my head after I first got it (with unloaded gun of course) and the gun will not come out without a determined and purposeful disengagement of the retention device and draw stroke.

Give the SERPA a try. You will not be disappointed.
did you use the SERPA with the paddle option ?
If I were to choose to open carry my first purchase would probably be a SERPA. but for CCW I'd rather have something with little retention from an adjustable screw like the ones mentioned above

Are all FOBUS holsters paddle ?

I keep a paddle holster for each of my pocket pistols for when I need to transition quickly to open carry when entering a restaraunt that serves alcohol (VA law; no conceal carry in restaraunts). They are fast and easy to put on, without unfastening the pants. Taking them off can be a little trickier because of the barbs. Sometimes just loosening the belt a couple of notches is enough, but other times a full undoing of the pants seems necessary. The Comp-Tack for my Kahr MK9 is my favorite; so comfortable I really could forget that it's there.

do all paddle holsters have the 'barbs' that latch onto the belt ?
I thought they just slipped on between your pants, so the thought of paddle holsters seemed unsecured

edit- i read about this on another forum and it looks like an alternative to the SERPA, Safariland Model 6378 ALS Paddle Holster

+1 on the Kramer MSP recommedation. I've tried about 4 different paddle holsters and the Kramer is the tightest and closes againt the body. Plus I like that it rides high as well.
