inhave always carried IWB but am tired of carrying in this manner, it just never agreed with me, no mater the gun size, it just always bothered me. my question to you is: what do all you OWB wearers use, the reason i never carrie outside the waistband is because of the natural advantage to conealment, i carry an h&k 45c my concern is not the magwell, but the barrell, i would love to find a holster manufacturer that has high rise that would be able to conceal anywear close to iwb? i know about all aspects of the 2 carry methods, would really appreciate any of your experiences with owb, and best methods to carry using any other method rather than iwb? sob? cross draw?

The major difference bwteen IWB and OWB is that the barrel can poke out. You may have to adjust how you dress to accomidate.
Any of the custom leather manufacturers can build the holster you're looking for. Check out Little Bear Custom Holsters, UBG Holsters, K&D Holsters, TT Gunleather, Milt Sparks etc. There are so many options and pretty much any of them that can mold for your firearm, will work 100%. I have carried OWB with a Raven Concealment kydex holster. I did so with a HK45 (full size). That's quite a feat. I used an XL t-shirt and nothing more. There wasn't any excessive printing to speak of. They don't make a holster for the HK45c though.

Well, you've got me sort of confused. Not that that's really hard to do, but I'll say this...Mitch Rosen has a line of OWB holsters that are very high riding, and tight to the body similar to an IWB holster. Their straight drop design works effectively for strong side or cross draw. Check 'Upper Limit' holsters on their site.

You've got to try another IWB...SOB (palm out)...not on the spine, but over the kidney...'perfecto'.
No addition to pants size...fits in the small of the back space. Easy draw...no body parts in danger when drawing. Won't pull the pants down. Can sit, walk, drive, and draw without a problem. See Fist holsters (related links above)...holster #41...I have about 6 of them for various pistols. I've carried strong side a lot, but I'm coming back to the #41 for comfort. Stay armed...try Fist...stay safe!

I had a Upper Limit but did not like the 3 O'clock position. I now use a Mernickle PS6 for both my P230 and P239. Rides very high and mininiun amount of leather. Had same for my Kimber Ultra. I can very quickly clear the holster and be ready for the BG. Several friends use the same holster.

The problem is a combative one when wearing holster behind the hip, the higher it is the harder is is to get out if someone has their hands on you.
I know you have been and IWB guy but have you ever tried appendix carry? |

But I guess I don't get loose enough pants to really feel comfortable with IWB carry... or maybe it's the size of my butt that get's stuffed into those pants. Whatever. My latest holster is an OWB Milt Sparks, the Axiom, for my stainless Commander. It rides high and I find that it's really just as concealeable is the IWB holsters if I simply choose the right shirt to wear over it. Perhaps when I lose some weight I'll go back to my IWB holsters, but for now, it sure is more comfy to wear them outside rather than inside. As far as I know, I haven't been made yet. |

The IWBs seem to just add more thickness to whatever it's holding. I find my Colt 1911 is comfortable in an IWB holster. How ever, my Glock 23 is way too fat, so I actually carry it with no holster. Believe it or not, I have had no issues doing this. Out and about the town, shopping, even at work, while working around the shop it's no big deal.
I don't like the OWBs at all unless I have a jacket on. But that's just me. |
