First of all, welcome to the forum and the world of concealed carry.

Check out this section of the forum.

Defensive Carry Holsters & Carry Options - DefensiveCarry Concealed Carry Forum

It has endless threads about holsters etc. Also look at the mega holster link.

Defensive Carry Holster Links

That should keep you busy for about a week or two. Then come back and read the responses, and you will know exactly what everyone is talking about.

Seriously, there are so many designs and makers your just going to have to start looking at them get some ideas of the ones you like then find out what people that already have and use them think.

An XD40 was the first handgun I purchased as well. Shoot it a lot and be safe.

welcome and as for a quick suggestion I would stay away from a SOB Small of the back. I am not a fan personally and if you fall it will hit your spine. (pending you land on your back.) But suggestions above are good and you will find like many of us you will have a drawer full of holsters some work others don't.
