J Frame with Speed Strips
I have noticed in most of the photos that people post of thier carry rigs that people just put 5 rounds in thier speed strips. Why not carry 6? one extra round is not much extra weight, and you never know when 1 round might make the differance.

My guess is because after you load generally you toss the speed strip or speedloader. No reason to carry an extra bullet if you are just going to toss the strip. it would take an extra step to put that bullet back into your pocket after loading your gun.

Seems like someone commented on this forum that one of the well-known instructors that teaches using the snub does this because the strip is easier to handle with the 3/space/2 configuration and a bit easier to load (especially the first two). I tried it and it is for me at least.

That's correct Sheepdog. At least that's why I do it.

I carry with six in the strips for my J's and SP101. Five is fine for the range, but if I'm reloading under stress (ie a real world situation) the chances for dropping a round go up exponentially.

+1 for 5 in the strip. More to grip under stress, easier and faster to reload. Don't take my word for it. Have someone time you at the range, 5 vs. 6 in the strip loading against the clock. 5 is faster for me.

I carry mine with 2 and 2 spaced. Reloads are significantly faster than fiddling with that fifth round.
