Couple reasons.......

1) As AZ Husker said, wrong side of the body. Say you are shooting for your life and need to reload. If the mag holder is incorporated with the holster you either have to swap hands TWICE to get the mag and insert it OR reach completely across your body with the weak arm and get the mag. Either technique CAN be done, but are tactically unsound.

I've seen Limatunes post about it and she is one of the very incredibly few folks I have seen that can demonstrate a crossbody mag draw with any degree of dexterity. That's not saying there are not others who can do it well, but even if someone can do it, then they can do a weak side mag draw even better.

2) To be completely blunt, comfort with this set up sux!

I tried several examples a couple years ago just to see if it would work and could not get it to work well. If it was reasonably comfortable, the mag was behind the gun and towards the back, making for a very shaky mag draw.
So I tried the mag in front of the gun, this worked better but to get a decent crossbody mag draw, the mag had to be so far forward it absolutely tore you up when you sat down.

Dropped the idea at that point and decided to stay with separate mag carriers.

For those that haven't seen it, Limatunes set up is an OWB, not an IWB. It also is in front of the pistol, allowing her to do a cross draw for the mag, and making it workable. I can see where it'd be problematic at best for the Crossbreed, and would only work for a select few.

Oddly, I just ran into that Limatunes post earlier today! She proves a petite woman can properly and easily hide a 1911 very effectively.

mtcraigco,

I bought a SuperTuck and belt from you last month and am really happy with it. I'll be spending more money with you in the near future.

In the meantime, how about developing a nice horizontal-carry OWB mag carrier?

I find vertical carry, which are a dime a dozen, to be less comfortable when sitting and not practical with a tucked shirt. After a lot of searching I found and ordered this:

Safariland Horizontal Magazine Holder - Model 123

It's decently made, but not up to Crossbreed quality. After the holster and belt I'm spoiled.

So, here's one vote for a Crossbreed quality horizontal mag holder that would to the casual eye look much like a cell phone, leatherman, or eye glass holder.

:)

Never had anything on a leather holster let go? Have you carried the same one everyday for a months or years? (Most of the people talking about the kydex cracking seem to wear their crossbreed exclusively) The only reason I ask is I have had stiching let go , rivets pull thru etc with leather holsters, it happens and requires repairs.

Don't get me wrong I love leather ( I make my own cowboy holsters) but for IWB I love the crossbreed stuff. (And I am prejudiced, I live near where Mark makes his stuff and I stopped by to see about a different style of clips, he didn't have them in stock and since I had to make an extra trip back, he gave me the clips for free when I came back by, now that is just being a good guy!)

Oh well as you said to each his own.

Happy New Year!

I have never had a leather holster ever give me an issue. I have carried for over 20 years, snapped on, snapped off, sweat, all the normal jazz. Maybe I am just lucky. I have however had some "plastics" have issues. Maybe I am just unlucky. Who knows.
I am sure that the CrossBreed is a great holster for those who use them. May be the greatest product in the world for all I know. Just not my cup of tea. Just because I don't have a like for something should not stop the world from turning. Sums it up.
BTW, my Broomland works better for me than my Sparks VMII. Sure this rankles the Sparks guys too. I have holsters or tried holsters from most of these guys on here, as well as other makers. I don't make comments about something I know nothing about. One of these days, I will put all the ones I don't want for sale here, let others try them out for a good price. Luck.

I am curious as to what it was that was defective about your CrossBreed. I assume that you had one break?

I ask because I like many have a good number of holsters that I have tried (only about 3 that I use on a semi-regular basis), yet I do not say anything bad about the brands that did not "fit" me well.

Also, given that you talked of "snapping" a holster on and off, I am assuming that you are/were LEO??

Got my CB Supertuck just before Xmas. Been wearing almost everyday. I got the Combat Grip and the cutout irritated my old man rolls at first. Leather has begun to soften and getting better each day. Talked to Mark and he was willing to send me one without the cutout. Gonna wear another week and hopefully will not have to send back. You cannot beat the customer service Mark provides on the Crossbreed.
