I vote serpa
Personally I have tried the serpa and the ALS system both. I find the serpa provides great retention and an easier reholster, plus its easier to draw from then an als holster. I have heard many people say how "unsafe" the serpa is, but its nothing more then a training issue. If they were "unsafe" my department would not have them as standard issue, and we would still be using the old safariland SLS and thumbbreak holsters they used to issue.
My other issue with the ALS is the platform the holster is mounted on. Its a very flexable plastic material that doesn't hold the gun in place while drawing and tends to flex and bend making it harder to draw. Its also much bulkier then the serpa.

Thumb break works for me just fine. Not worried about my revolver being snatched by a rabid squirrel.

I currently use Black Hawk CQC (level 1, trigger gaurd retention only) for my 1911 and Glock.
My partner uses Fobus Roto Holster for her Taurus (again trigger gaurd retention only). Great to not have to worry about thumb break, simple draw and fire. If you dont plan on dive rolling, jumping or running fast then the trigger gaurd retention is adequate to hold gun in place. If someone was close enough to pull you pistol out without your knowledge then something is seriously wrong with you. I agree with the comments on L2 and L3 serpa with the button activated retention, I have deiberately pressed down hard on my L1 where the button would be and yes the finger can slip into the trigger gaurd on the up draw.

For carrying around the house, yard, or range My Black Hawk CQC works fine. I like the retention system and the way it draws.
But for actual CC I prefer leather with thumb break. |
