Holsters for Horseback Riding

Does anyone have experience with concealed carrying while on horseback? If so, what type of holster have you found works best? At first I thought a fanny pack, but I found it to be too bulky and it would be difficult to draw. I was thinking of carrying with a body belt in the small of my back, but unsure of safety, etc. I've recently received my concealed carry permit and still trying things out. I'm female with an athletic build. Thanks for your suggestions!

Thumbs up

I wear one of these at about 4 O'Clock (Not as Shown):

Gould & Goodrich | Gold Line Concealment Holsters, Belts & Accessories | Small Of The Back Holster

I ride as much as possible, and never had a problem with this and my Glock 26.

Thanks Richard! I forgot to mention I have a Glock 26 too, so this may work well for me. I'll have to check it out.

Shoulder holster or a cross draw rig. I use both. Not at the same time of course.

Thanks! Does the shoulder harness stays tight and comfortable even at a gallop?

Unless you're wearing a shoulder holster underneath a tight shirt I'd think you'd end up with bruises or at least a sore side from the movement of the pistol.
I also have a SOB but mine is a Galco. Hold the holster very snug and works well anywhere from 4:00 to 6:00.

I have the old "Miami Vice" style shoulder holster with the belt straps. No problem with it banging around.

I would think a good cross draw or Small Of Back...would be the ticket.
S.O.B. SMALL OF BACK HOLSTER like this Galco or maybe the FIST #41

I usually open carry when riding. Or if it's cold enough, there might be a long coat or poncho covering. Either a cross draw or strong side with dedicated gun belt. On those it's a full size revolver.

My normal conceal gun is a G27 either in a tuckable IWB stong side or an OWB with cover garment. If it's too warm for cover garment and I'm riding somewhere I can't open carry, then I'll pack my usual way with the G27 in the tuckable IWB.
