As far as I am aware, the owners of Rafter S Gunleather are not registered members of DefensiveCarry.com

Do you really think they will register just to address the complaints in this thread, especially since they have such a problem with just responding to customers' phone calls and e-mails?

Don't hold your breath...

Good to see you're still around LoveLeather. Haven't seen much of you lately.

Thanks Bud....I'v been over at the Smith forum having some fun with new friends....a few of them even chipped in and bought my new boy Dino a pristine Model 17 as a shower gift...they even drove it down from up north....they printed my letter about it in the new issue of Guns magazine....So how are you? I'm good but I sure miss the Cult....

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!
Follow up 06/16/09.

I filed a Paypal dispute to get my money back and then I called Rafter S. I talked to Della Shafer. I asked if she would go ahead and just credit the money back to my Paypal. She said, "oh, you're the one who filed the Paypal dispute." I told her that I did file a dispute. Then, she told me that Paypal will credit me back whenever the dispute closes in a month. I told her that customer service like that is exactly the reason that I cancelled my order. She hung up the phone.

Good luck to anyone who orders from Rafter S...

Wow, that is some great customer service for ya!

Sucks you have to wait a month but at least Paypal is good about getting your money back. I had to file several disputes in the past and always recieved my funds back. Good luck!

Has anyone actually tried contacting the owner? I am sure he would like to hear about this and get his office straightened out. Getting your companies good name bashed because of some bad office workers certainly wouldn't make me happy.

I totally appreciate your concern for a business and letting the owner know what's going on... hopefully, so that the problems could be corrected...right?

However...

Della is the owner's wife. Della and Steve Schafer are the owners of the company. I feel quite sure that they know what they're doing.

If I sound irritated, rathos, it is not directed at you. I am upset because I expressed to them the urgency of getting this belt ASAP and was assured it would only take a few weeks...not a few months with no end in sight.

I agree with you, rathos, that before you talk bad or bash a company, it is only right to make sure you have exhausted all avenues to resolve the problem.

Steve & Della Schafer are the owners. That is who folks have been talking to. Evidently they don't care.

thanks, Jerry

sorry, I know when you see someone with only 3 posts, you have to take what they say and determine what their motivation may be... I post on several forums on other topics outside of guns/ammo, etc...

I will just as quickly say that TT Gunleather has been the opposite of Rafter S. I contacted TT back in April for a holster and belt. TT promised 3 to 4 months...

Last week, just under two months later, I got a call from TT saying he was about to get started on my leather... I already got a confirmation email that the package has shipped...should receive it today.

Now, that is customer service...ahead of schedule and HE called me, I didn't have to call him. He gives a law enforcement discount and didn't even charge me until he was ready to start the project.

Thanks marcvw,
In my view no one can put out anything that is so good that they can long get by with poor customer service. We have had some excellent holster makers whose customer service was so bad that few will deal with them.
That is especially true when there are top rung makers whose CS is superb, such as your experience, Sparks, Nossar, Del Fatti, 5 Shot, and a fair number of others.
CS separates the sheep from the goats, and when combined with first class workmanship and quality makes one glad to do business with them.

Glad you got such good service from TT, and I feel sure you will like your holster.

Regards,
Jerry

Paypal found in favor of me over Rafter S. Rafter S still refuses to refund the money through Paypal. I plan to call Rafter S tomorrow and try to get a resolution. If that doesn't work, I will file a complaint with the Missouri Attorney General's Office - Consumer Protection and a theft report with the local police department where Rafter S is located. Taking money from someone to make leather and then not completing the work is fraud.

On a lighter note, I received a holster and gunbelt from TT Gunleather yesterday. Great customer service, faster delivery than originally promised and superior workmanship... TT Gunleather is a great manufacturer of fine leather products. Highly recommended!!
