Looking for Appendix Carry IWB suggestions

G'day everyone...

I'm looking at appendix position IWB carry for my soon to be issued S&W M&P .40. There are no decent holster makers here in Australia, so I have to source it from overseas.

I've tested the appendix position with blue guns in training, but the problem is my dep't requires holsters be fitted with 'visible retention' even for concealment, ie: has to have a thumb break or similar. It also needs to hod itself open for 1 hand re-holstering.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer who produces something suitable? Or wil I have to have it custom made...

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Try Rhome @ Desbiens Gunleather. He crafted a minimalist IWB #4 for my Glock 27 to wear AIWB.

IMO, AIWB is for a sub-compact semi or a snub.

The Mike Magnum from Kellog Gunleather looks interesting for a larger gun.

I've seen a female officer wear IWB at the appendix position on duty so I know some folks can pull it off even with a thicker .40 pistol. What kind of attachment point are you looking for? Snaps? Clip? Velcro? I can't think of too many stock IWB neutral cant holsters suitable for AIWB that offer a thumb snap. Don Hume has their H715-MTB (link) or their tuckable IWB Strike (link) both use a metal clip.

That does look interesting, especially with the large revolver in the pictures.

Thanks for the replies...I've actually done appendix IWB 'unofficially' with my current M10 and have carried a G17 and SIG 226 in this location in the past, albeit in holsters without thumbreaks (which is very naughty in my current job apparently) with no issues, and the M&P.40 should be more comfy than the M10.

As for attachment, I'm not fussed whether it's J hooks, snaps or slides, as it will be under an untucked tee or a hoodie...I think the IWB strike looks like the best I've seen so far

Much prefer the appendix carry for these reasons...
1. can draw from non open cover garment (hoodie) easily with one hand
2. Easier to re-holster with one hand
3. Less obvious that you are standing ready to draw on a threat than strong side holsters

I am haning for the new pistol, as I have always been a much better shot with semi-autos & find it easy to conceal even a full size one IWB under just a T-Shirt

Sorry, can't help ya. Advanced Dunlap Syndrome and a 5" 1911 kinda eliminates the possibility of appendix carry.

I have been carrying appendix with a CompTac MTAC and it is very comfortable. I did cut a little leather off the botton so it did not bother me when sitting. Still looking for a good OWB appendix (or crossdraw) holster with enough cant and that holds the gun close to my body. CompTac just came out with an appendix carry version of the MTAC but I am happy with what I am using.
