| Defensive Carry Holsters & Carry Options There are some really good defensive carry holster designs, as well as some very bad ones on the market today. Whether you are in the market for a new holster or just discovered another perfect carry option, let us know about it here. |

Carrying while running
I normally run on a treadmill at home but have started running outside and have tried a few carry methods without much success.
Any suggestions?

I thought the reason we carry is so we didn't HAVE to run!?! (Just kiddin'). I don't know what CCW you're carrying, but the Ka-Bar Tactical Series has a nice fanny pack I use for some pretty intense hiking.

Smartcarry might be a good option.

Sounds like the fannypack might be a good idea, IMHO!

Of my options the XD9 Sub Compact would be the lightest. I tried to carry it in a smart carry type holster already and it was bouncing around way too much. I imagine it would be the same with a fanny pack.
I was thinking of maybe a super tight shoulder holster???

Hawkepak makes a couple of fanny packs that would work for running... Camelbak also makes the Goblin fannypack, which has a hydration bladder. I've used them for hiking and they are pretty good for carrying...

When wearing a fannypack and running, try moving the holster over to your side, it will flop less and not be irritating.

If you are willing to open carry, use a thigh rig. That's the most efficient way to carry while running for me.

I am a avid runner and I can honestly say that if your are even remotely serious about it you are going to need a new carry gun for running. A XD is WAYYYYYY to big. Get a ruger LCP. And then get one of these.
Nathan Speed 1.5 >> Water Bottle Carrier >> Running Unlimited A LCP or other small .380 will fit in the pocket. It's what I use.

I use smartcarry for activities including running and tennis, keeps the pistol from bouncing, works on my full-size G21.
