This probably would only concern Oregon residents, but have any of you taken the Defensive Handgun courses at the Oregon Firearms Academy in Brownsville? I'm scheduled for DH 1 in Nov. and I'm curious about good/bad impressions of the training. I've had training before when I was a Probation Officer, but that was long ago in a galaxy far away.

I'll add what I consider to be the two best "pure shooting" schools:

Roger Shooting School: http: www.rogers-shooting-school.com

Mid-South Institute of Self-Defense: www.weaponstraining.com

I have not but one of my fellow instructors have. I would like to know what you thought of their style since it appears you were there by now.

I am in Salem Oregon and teach here Jim jacobe

Kevin: (you're gorgeous, BTW)

I have only the benefit of attending that one school, apart from Peace Officer's Training in Kern County, CA (long ago in a galaxy far away), however I found the course and the instructors to be top notch. It's a friendly bunch, no wanna be drill instructors here, but they convey the message and the training in a no nonsense, professional manner. I'll definitely go back for more. The cost/benefit ratio is right on too. I recommend them highly. In particular, the Basic Handgun Safety course to acquire a permit is excellent.

That being said. Make sure you conduct due dilligence. Just because someone lists secret squirrel creds does not mean that they're legit...no matter how cool their website is.
