Shot my first IDPA match yesterday.
Went last month to watch and decided to go give it a try this month. I'm surprised more folks are doing this for as close to real world encounters as you can get.
I've shot Cowboy Action Shooting for the last 10 yrs and it's great but I wanted something I could do to practice my concealed carry drawing and firing. Once that buzzer goes off behind you, your heart gets to pumping and it's hard to remember everything. I used a S&W model 10 with a paddle holster. My button up shirt coverd up my equipment very well and when I carry this gun it's the same shirt I wear so that was good experience. |

Yeah it was. It was so different from the cowboy shooting where you have to be stopped to shoot. But with IDPA you shoot on the move, just like you would in a real world encounter.

I discovered IDPA in Feb. I love the game.

Another club south of me had a BUG event last weekend. They had folks using their BUG, primary CCW, a loaner AR and a loaner 12ga pump. Now that had to be fun!!

Bug Only matches are fun to shoot but a pain to organize since people carry BUGs in many different ways and we have to reconcile them with Range rules. This video is of a first time shooter. The CoF was that you were trapped in your vehicle unable to run away and had to confront BGs. You went ahead and engage the targets but your primary weapon suffered a malfunction so you had to go for your BUG.

We have a ton of SASS shooters in our group too. We normally see 25-40 people and run 7-9 stages--these guys were tickled pink and have become some of our most reliable and hard-working members! Welcome aboard Sir!
Don't forget--GET OUT AND HELP. Come early and help set up, stay late and help tear down. 10% of the shooters do 90% of the work, so they will be THRILLED to have your assistance. They say the average "lifespan" of a competitive shooter is 30 months. This is why. Some have no invenstment in the sport, and others get burned out from the depth of theirs. Be a contributor and keep 'em in the -0. Dan
