I have also gotten a quote for a GSM backup device for my alarm, so the signal actually makes it to the dispatch if it happens again. Now all I need is good advice on a 1 gun safe that all I have to do is touch to open, like a biometric or something.

My safe is bolted to the floor and accomodates more guns than one. One of my Home Defense guns is between the matress and the box spring, if I'm not wearing it. Another is on the floor, under the bed. The third stays in the pocket of the pants I was wearing that night, located on the chair in the bedroom. Biker

Paco, wouldn't waste your money on the biometric. Most biometric's that the average guy can afford (less than 3000) if your hand is a little bit wet or a little dirty they will not work. With the new ICF walls and such safe rooms are easy to build now and you could even with a good architect connect the safe rooms together.

is your alarm running through the cable company's phone line? through a cable modem? if so, do you have a backup method of calling out? What I am trying to say is this "If your cable is cut, you have no phone, which means the alarm will not call out" even though you may have a breach and the alarm is sounding there is nobody responding. I have mine setup on GSM which uses cell service so even if power is off and phone lines are cut it will still call out

Paco: At least you have a plan and when the time came you and entire family executed the plan. Well done, next time it will even go smother.
Question, can you trip the alarm for a practice for the whole family? |

Paco,
Is there not a tall dresser drawer that you can tuck a pistol into for the night? Messing with a safe while an intruder happened to be entering your bedroom could be a real problem. The gun could be locked during the day, but readily available 'in the dark'. Curious... ![]() ret

As a safe man I can't describe all the problems that could occur here, in the middle of the night, especially with elocks. The only thing between me and my firearm at night is air and opportunity... Having the same incident..a few lessons i learned. With all my bedrooms on the second floor I opted for a weapon mounted light. Our plan is for me to hold the stairway as the wife gets the kids to our room and into the bathroom and bunkers in. The master bath is the most out of the line of fire we can get.
The stairway is s choke point, and the only way to reach us so we can hold the fort from the top until the help arrives. The change to the weapon mounted light was driven from the first false alarm. I had a hand held flashlight and would have to use my flashlight hand to escort (push the little ones across the hall behind me). With our plan the family is always behind me so having full accountability any one illuminated downstairs is considered the BG. Cell phone on the night stand a must... I also did not sleep for a few hours after the incident... As hair raising as it was I think it was a good live action scenario to learn from.

I think you did well Paco, and I'm glad it was only a gremlin. It's good to have a plan, and yes, I think anyone would be slightly nervous if this happened to them. My bedroom safe has 5 buttons that are far enough apart that I can feel the difference, even in the dark.
BTW, I leave my bedroom safe OPEN at night, and I close it and lock it when I leave the house. Don't know if that's an option for you, but you may wish to consider.
