Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

First check state laws regarding fixed knives for carry. If its a go, then decide. as for the smooth blade , i like it better, as it shouldn't get hung up on clothing or other items in a slash move. The Tanto blade is good for puncture type attacks. (stronger than a drop point. ) Perhaps a knife class or atleast reading some books on defensive knife training would help ya.

Both knives are nice, though I like the H&K better. The ironic part though is that an H&K knife, H&K being a German company, having a knife called the Axis. hehehe Ironic.

I guess I'm in the minority here, I sort of prefer combo edges on a few of my knives - but only on those with blades over 3.5". Anything less than that and I feel like I've lost too much of the plain edge. On a tanto I prefer plain edge regardless of the blade length.

My first Benchmade was a 722BT (3.25" tanto). It's built like a tank and I bought it for both personal protection and in the (likely) event I'd have to pry the doors open in our office elevators.

My current edc knife is a Benchmade 750SBT Pinnacle (see a pattern yet? ). It's a 3.6" recurve framelock but, especially since I've retired, I see it primarily as a utility knife with the capability of self defense. I'm just as likely to use it cutting cord as slicing bananas or envelopes.

I carried a 2.95" Benchmade 705 for several years and gave several of them as gifts. IMHO there's isn't a better "office friendly" edc to be had ... although it's now been replaced with the 706/707 . Hey, there's always ebay.

The only fixed blade I carry in a normal daily routine is my 210 Activator Benchmade. It's a "gentleman's" sized knife though, I think the blade is roughly 2.5" or so.
