Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

I have thought about all the above plus the seat belts will easily unclip for the seats. You think a can of coke would hurt? Image a seat belt buckle being swung by the belt. Also I have thought about making a shooting weapon out of the CO2 cartridge used by the life preserver? Nobody thought about that.

The ones setting policy don't need our help. All of these things are uber-obvious to anyone in security. Mentioning the obvious doesn't "give" any ideas to folks who already know.

Sharpened pencils are good. #2 are okay, but the really hard drawing pencils are better. Tightly rolled magazine...even newspaper.

Disarms are great to learn, but the have to be practiced regularly, with a variety of different people. Learning some knife/gun disarms once in a seminar or something will likely increase your chances of getting shot or cut.

Many times, disarms are incidental, if not accidental. DON'T train like this.

Unfortunately, that's kind of the mentality of the training: the attack will come THIS way, so you disarm THIS way. Then, reality rears its ugly head.

You may be right, but then again you may be giving the bureaucratic genuises a little more credit than they deserve. I don't really trust the compentancy level of most government departments. I spent enough time working for Uncle Sam to come to the sad realization that our country is defended by the lowest bidder.

ha good thread here, i often think about similar things when im on a flight (especially after 9/11)

there are so many improvised weapons available on a plane, basically the only limit is your imagination. you can break a CD/DVD in half which yields a sharp and pretty effective fighting knife. find a full carry-on bag with a long strap and use it to swing at someone can work pretty good too (especially if people are working together as a team i.e. one person flails at them and knocks their guard down while others jump them)

i could go on and on but yall get the point

In the list of items below, pick out the ones that are permissible to carry on board an airplane in the US:

7" long flathead screwdriver
7" long philips screwdriver
7" long needlenose pliers or vice grips
7" long adjustable wrench
hardwood walking stick
doorman's umbrella
Surefire E2D or like flashlight, under 7" long
Sharpie marker (or Cold Steel Sharkie)
Kubaton

The answer? Everything except the Kubaton. You can legally carry all of the other items aboard a commercial flight in the US.

Tell me again why you would revert to a sock and roll of quarters...
