Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

Mil-Tac TDP: Tactical Defense Pen. It's just a pen - made of aircraft aluminum. It ain't cheap but in every configuration it's more than enough to puncture bones (can you say cranial vault?), skin, muscle, etc. It won't break... so far.

Just a few thoughts...

I like the idea, but will TSA allow these pens? They look like a weapon. I prefer a Cross pen and pencil set. They are very stout and classy.

I have a big issue with him when he takes the weapon, turns it on the guy, but stays right in his face. The guy is liable to just take his gun right back. Especially if the "ANGEL" doesn't know how to use the gun.

They don't even allow the GAs to carry pepper spray.

Glad to see canes come up more often in these threads. IMO canes are one of the most effective covert weapons available. Hidden out in the open. Handles that are at a 90 degree angle to the staff like Chris Koontz's Offset T-Cane available from American Cane are ideal SD weapons. His Birds Head Cane is acceptable but not as good for SD IMO. Learning some Kenpo or police baton training would be a great asset. I also carry a 150 lumen multifunction NovaTac flashlight, a heavy set of keys with a braided parachute cord whatchamacallit thingumabob doodad handle thingy that unravels to about four foot of cord to swing the keys from. A mechanical pen but am looking at a Benchmade pen. A bit pricey at $150 though and my Doc Martins or Whites with the heavy braided yellow laces..
An aside it may work in the movies but a pop can or anything heavy in a sock idea is not a very good one IMO. Twice in high school I saw guys put soap in a sock to use as a sap. Both times the soap ripped through the sock. Once just from swinging it. So unless you wear Black Ops Kevlar tactical socks I'd pass on that one.

My guess is that replacing insulin with battery acid would be illegal. To bad it would provide a whole meaning to Acid Trip or Hot Shot

First post.. normally just lurk.

Something I've thought about a-lot when I travel.

By combining many of these items and bringing some tape with you, you can make a decent spear or javelin. Cane, newspaper, flashlight etc plus a pen or sharpened credit-card etc. Always nice to have some range on your opponent.

Just now reading the list of TSA prohibited items, I didn't see metal carabiners disallowed.

Go to walmart in the boating section. Pick your size carabiner, spring clip, or small hook. Will run $2-7. Attach doubled over length (about 15") of stout rope or cord. Viola. Improvised mace-type weapon that (in most cases) can hold your keys. I carry a 10mm carabiner and a length of paracord. Works like a charm.

With a bum hip/leg, myself, this works very well. Cold Steel walking stick. As it's one of the few effective things I can use, I take it with me each time I'm on a plane. Never gets a second glance.

I go with a bag full of spare change (quarters), and carry a pair of long socks. It is easily explainable as you are traveling and might need to buy things out of vending machines, and as for the socks I always wear ankle socks, so if I have a spare pair of long socks I can say its in-case my legs get cold.

In the event of SHTF simply pour the quarters into a sock, and wham, you've got a flail.

Awhile back in a Texas prison an inmate went around for over a year scraping lead paint off the walls. He wet it and formed it into a large, heavy, solid lead ball... He put it in a sock and used it to kill someone.

So whammo, you've got a lethal multi purpose 'weapon' that can either be used to get a drink, snack, or to defend yourself.

I strongly suggest you try that theory out. My bet from experience is that if the quarters don't rip through the sock while you are swinging it they will the first time they impact something. Betting your life on one possible hit is a bad idea IMO. Seriously consider a good quality wood cane much easier and a far better weapon. My bet is the Texas inmate used a far better support system for his lead ball than just a sock, regardless of what the newspaper said.

I would use carry-on luggage.
IF they have a weapon I could launch it at them – they can get hit in the face or they could try and catch the luggage.
You could use it as a shield etc.
You should have a good supply of luggage in the overheads.

The bottom plate of my carry-on is solid and would really do some damage to someone’s face if I rammed them with it.
