Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

The important thing to determine when it comes to defensive weapons for the woman in your life is their ability to discipline themselves to the idea of using it. Too many who possess something, be it gun or OC or whatever, end up using it as a talisman rather than a defensive tool. As you said in the original post, if it is in the bottom of the purse it is useless, no matter what the tool.

First will be the training to instill in them the discipline to keep whatever they are carrying in a manner that will allow it to be deployed in an emergency. For this reason an impact tool on the keychain may be the easiest. If they are going to use spray they must get used to carrying it in-hand or having it where easily deployed. If they won't do this step, it won't matter what they are provided with, it will be useless. You must also get them out of code white and into code yellow so they have an awareness of danger and situational awareness, then the tools can be ready.

That video was an eye opener! (Pun intended) Obviously they are training to fight through the effects of the spray. But it does show that it does not necessarily stop a determined attacker. This would be a good video to show your loved one before they get OC spray so they understand that if they use it, it might not work like the advertisements claim.

I always have a small container of OC in my pocket. Some cases only call for this..say a dunk guy wants to fight etc..less lethal force. Its good to have other tools in the case.

I do not carry OC because I have seen it turn more people into The Incredible Hulk than cry babies. The weak concentration available to regular folk is ... well, weak.

Gotta love Marines. OORAH!
