| Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver. |

What I also find interesting, Texas law will allow one to carry a knife with a blade up to 5.5 inches. That's a good size piece of steel in a pocket. - sorry for the tangent.
Back on topic. - The OTF knives I have seen by Kershaw look interesting, I would stay away from them. The Courts could put that knife in the same category as switchblade/auto knife. Also, what is very strange - Almost every gunshop, that I have been to in the Houston Metro area will sell anyone an auto knife. |

I've bought numerous autos and an out-the-front Microtech here in Texas from dealers. No problems unless you carry it on your person....
Now, section 46 something or other, could be argued that any CHL holder in Texas can legally carry a switchblade on his person as long as he also is carrying his firearm. Crazy, I know, and will most likely lead to arrest. So I would not do it or advocate it, just something that can be interpreted by the code. But yes, you can buy and own/collect autos and out-the-fronts here in Texas. |

Also, as you can see, there are numerous people here that know for sure, but each - including me - has different info.
Call your local PD or an attorney up on the law. This is good for debate, but I wouldn't take anyone's word on here, even mine, and mine comes from the local PD in Corpus Christi, my family of lawyers and the local dealers - I also sell knives, but am not really a dealer and I don't sell autos. |

Switchblades, etc
In PA in 1968 I got my CCW permit and asked about knives. I was told that ONLY AMPUTEES (arms) COULD CARRY SWITCHBLADES because of the difficulty of opening a pocket knife with one hand or with teeth!

the assisted open knives are good because you have to touch the blade to open.

Quote:
there is no provision for anyone with a CHL being allowed to carry a prohibited weapon, CHL only covers carrying a concealed handgun, no provisions for other weapons (unfortunately) the law on this is pretty clear

Knives
I had this conversation with a friend recently. He asked if I could carry large knives or switchblades and I told him I couldn't. He thought it was strange (And at first blush I have to agree) that I couldn't carry a switchblade but I could carry a loaded pistol.
I've also heard that amputee rule here in Texas as well from several people. Not sure if its true here or not and it wouldn't apply to me anyway but interesting to think about. Alex! |
