Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

No Guns Allowed... But What About Knives?

What are the rules pertaining to the open carrying of knives in national parks?

Here you can carry a large knife in plain view, at least by state law... Can you carry a large (and by large I do *not* mean machette or sword, but a practical hunting knife that could be used for self defense) knife openly into national parks if the state allows such carry elsewhere?

I carry this inside my light summer jacket whenever I go hiking
Israeli Commando Knife Blacked carbon steel blade with Leather Handle.

I'm not sure if it is legal or not. I have seen a lot of folks with their wives and kids open carry handguns at Rattlesnake Ridge in Washington. They usually carry them in fabric holsters so it blends in with their giant backpacks. No one panicked or reported them so far, which is nice. Watch out for the occasional anti-gun school teacher..they could be dangerous... ;-)

I have no clue or care as to the legallity of large knives in state parks. When I go camping in them, I carry a large Bowie on my right hip and my Ruger Superblack hawk on my left hip. No problems have come my way for the past 16 years...

The question was open carry of large knives in National parks, not State parks.

Try to stay on topic.

Then I'm going to give you a chance to retract that statement.

Carrying firearms in U.S. National Parks is illegal.

So you don't care if you break the law or not?
