Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

Where do these folks get the authority? I thought new law was the job of Congress.

Agency regulations can carry the force of law. Now, whether they should or not is another question....

Interesting....since I bought a SOG Aegis (AOK) while deployed here in Afghanistan, are they telling me I can't bring it back? Again--these kinds of laws create more criminals than they do to "stop crime"...unelected bureaucrats should not be making "laws" that affect the citizenry, but make policy that affect how they carry out their duties. If it affects the citizenry, then the Department should go back to Congress and ask "Mother may I?"

Yep, all they have to do is publish the regs in the Federal Register and it's a done deal. Law of the land.

1: You shouldn't need any weapon at all. For there is no crime here in the worker's paradise of Obamanation.

2: Sure, the unelected bureacrats shouldn't make "laws". But is there really any difference between them and our elected pinko putzs who think folks like you and I might be more of danger to civilization than drug dealers, rapists and other felons?

Remind me again then, what is the point of having a legislative branch?

Comments are invited on the correctness of the intended actions.
DATE: Comments must be received on or before June 21, 2009
ADDRESS: Written comments are to be addressed to
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of International Trade, Regulations and Rulings,
Attention: Intellectual Property and Restricted Merchandise Branch, Mint Annex,
799 9th Street, N.W. Washington D.C.
I haven't been able to find an Email addy for comments.

It's my understanding that kniferights.org and AKTI are trying to get the comment period extended. However, as it stands now, comments must be received on or before June 21, 2009.

Doug Ritter of kniferights.org is asking people to wait for him to gather information and put together a form letter before sending comments. I'm not sure that's the best course of action, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and see what he comes up with. I'm not going to wait past Monday, however.

Slight sarcasm on/The Congress makes the laws that say the regulatory agencies can make laws./Slight sarcasm off

I'm with you, packinnova. While it probably is true that agencies must have some limited authority to regulate their subject area, Congress is supposed to exercise oversight. They fail to do that to a sufficient degree, IMO. Others' mileage may vary.

As far as I'm concerned knives, sticks, batons, knuckledusters, blackjacks, saps, etc., et al, whatever, are all arms. As such, my right to keep and bear them shall not be infringed (or questioned as per Pa. Constitution).

Take a look at Knife Rights - Home for more info and advice on what to do.
Wonder what effect it will have on a law just passed here in Texas regarding the definition of what a switchblade is and is not.
