| Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver. |

Somewhere in the distant past, Congress passed a law that says administrative agency rules & regulations have the force of law upon being published in the Federal Register. Look at the myriad of BATFE rules & regs. They weren't passed by the Congress. They were published by the agency in the Federal Register and therefore are the law. Violations are Federal criminal offenses, carrying fines and prison time. Ask any of the former FFL dealers now incarcerated. Every law passed by Congress, every agency rule & reg, every AG's opinion, every Executive order, in short, everything the Government does, is published in the Federal Register. If it isn't, it isn't legal.

Just to update, the publication where my wife works has researched this matter and is getting ready to go to press with the article.
It appears IN FACT that the 63 page proposal by U.S. Customs "seeks to expand the switchblade definition set by Congress in 1958 to include ALL knives that open with one hand. These include or can include multi-tools, traditional pocket knives, one-hand openers and assisted-openers." For the latest news on this, go to Knife Rights - Home |

A couple of people on another forum that I frequent made an excellent suggestion yesterday. Anyone that knows non-knife knut people who nevertheless have a use for knives that can be quickly opened with one hand (hikers, campers, rock climbers, skydivers, sailors, fishermen, etc. , I'm sure we can think of lots more) should make those people aware of what's going on. Don't say anything about 'liberals'. It would probably be best not to mention self defense when communicating with people who aren't into knives and guns. Send emails and register on forums and get the word out there. Include the contact info that I've posted. If AKTI and kniferights .org are not successful in their efforts to extend the comment period we only have until June 21!!! We've got to get as many people as possible on board. We've got to flood CBP with letters opposing this proposal!

Sample letters, lots of good advice, and a link to find and email your members of congress are now posted on this page http://kniferights.org/index.php?opt...=76&Itemid=150 at kniferights.org.
Please click the link and make use of the information provided there. CBP is not accepting comments by email. Comments to CBP must be received by June 21! |
