Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

X-26 Taser, or nothing. Keep in mind these are NOT maintenance-free. To keep the capacitor working, the cartridge must be removed, and the unit tested for one second on a regular basis.

Training is also essential. A Taser is more difficult than a handgun to use, and there is only ONE shot with the darts. If one or both darts miss, it depends upon contact to work.

Lastly, arming someone with a Taser, if they will not carry a gun, is futile. Arming someone with a mere stun gun is a gross disservice, as it might give someone courage to go where angels fear to tread, with tragic consequences. Once upon a time, stun guns had a deterrent effect. They don't scare anybody, anymore.

First, find out why she isn't carrying the gun. The likely options are:
- She thinks it's not necessary
- She doesn't like guns for ideological reasons
- It's too much hassle (weight, size, etc) for the perceived benefit
- She feels nervous about carrying a gun, as many beginners do

Once you understand why she's not carrying, then you can start working toward a solution. In the meantime, buying more stuff is unlikely to fix it. A taser is at least as big as a medium sized gun and is just as awkward to carry. If she doesn't see the need for a gun, she probably won't see the need for a taser.

If it was my wife I would get some oc spray. Probably
the Fox labs 5.3 (Its smaller in size than both the
taser or stun gun) and it's non-lethal.

I thought about this first when I read this thread
but, didn't want to take it off topic since there were
just two choices.

OK....you guys make sense. I am going to get her some OC spray, and try to talk her into carrying her brand new .38. Get me a container of Fox OC too.

Get her a Taser C2. These can be really effective as I know a man who's been hit by one (Law Enforcement Officer as a "willing" test subject). He wouldn't dare talk down the unit now after it had him shaking on the floor for 30 seconds and lying there incapacitated several more minutes. $350 is stiff but that's the price of a good defense. Get her the red one; it's sexy too!

Did I mention the Laser sight and bright white LED on the front of it?

Taser C2.

Forget the stun gun... that requires physical contact and doesn't reliably work.

While I've never been much into stun guns before, I did pick one of these up recently (link) just because it was so small and cute(and affordable) for its power output(not much bigger than a zippo lighter and looks like a car remote) and has a bright usable flashlight built in .. it does pack a hell of a 'get off me shock' for its size(after testing it out) and the 1 million v sound/crack it makes is loud enough to make most jump or cringe

..but would still need to be held on the subject for 3-5 seconds to get a more tased and drop, disoriented effect ..whereas the taser fixes the barbed darts and runs through a 5 second cycle automatically.

But stun guns are getting quite powerful these days, this 2.5 million v has a pretty good effect..especially after he holds it in place for a second :) YouTube - 50 year old man shocking self with 2.5million volt stun gun....TWICE!!!!!!

I carry this little micro stun/prod :) Only as a backup to a can of Good Oc spray(ie:fox labs, sabre, freeze)
..then usually also with a knife and small pistol at least.

PS..A taser C2, OC combo would be pretty formidable after she was trained in their use.

When it comes to stun guns/tasers, it's not the amount of volts that hurts, it's the amps.

All I really know is that they are not reliable. I would have given one to my ex wife, still would. I would never ever give one to anyone I loved or cared about
