Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

I bought my G/F a Taser C2 about a yr and a half ago as an alternative to her carry weapon...she mainly wanted it b/c it came in pink *sigh*

Here in Vegas there's a good chance it will be effective given it's hot/warm 99% of the time. I doubt the effectiveness would be there in colder climates/winter if an assailant has heavy clothes/jackets on. I have not researched this, just a presumption on my part based on the function of prongs. Also once the prongs have been deployed it can be used as a stun gun.

PS, be careful if you do get one...can't tell you how many times I've almost given myself a shot out of curiosity! And no, not on 'tong mode', contact mode...C2 zaps for a full 30 sec unlike a PD taser (3 or 5 secs) to give the user time to escape.

-Cheers

Its Amps that Kill, correct ..But when they all gauge in the 3ma range(which they do) then there is a definite difference in felt performance and the quickness of effects between the lower and higher voltage models.

The surest way to tell is to get zapped by a few different voltage models(which will be around 3ma) and see if you can tell the diff ;)

If it was me I'd opt for a good walking stick. Never met a exwife who didn't know how to swing one. A lot more dependable and safer in my opinion.

I had thought about getting my daughter one of those C2's but then after doing some research, decided against it. They only get one shot, and if they miss...... I opted for some good ol' fashioned OC spray.

Save yourself some money and buy her a copy of Principles of Personal Defense by Col. Cooper...might fix her mindset.

Those little Tasers are garbage.
You do not want one for yourself or as a gift, the company that produces them doesn't want you to have one and will not let you use it after you have bought it UNTIL you get their permission.

Read the literature carefully in regards to ANY Taser product. YOU CAN NOT GET THE SAME PRODUCT AS A POLICEMAN CARRIES.

You can however buy a S&W or a Colt/Sig/Glock and get the exact same thing a policeman carries. Why the reference to LE? Because it is proven to be an effective tool. It is made more effective by the tactics and teamwork of the officers who use these tools. Most LE agencies have strict policies regarding the use of Tasers including that of supporting the device with lethal force (just in case).

The most common concealed weapon is a small frame revolver.
Why? because it will (should) not jam when used in contact with a bad guy. Why would you say it is an advantage to have a standoff distance with a taser when most prepared individuals come ready for a fight to be close - real close. I do not see this as an advantage.

Finally, ask yourself this; Would you carry a single shot pistol for self defense? If you answer is like mine, then ask why you would give your significant other a single shot Taser. I trust my better half with a firearm and more importantly I have invited her many times to a self defense class/continuing training beyond her CCW permit.

Yes IMHO at least than she is not under the delusion that she is armed and able to defend herself. Than if she is attacked she can take some appropriate action like trying to run away, scream for help grab a club rather than reach for a possibly useless tool. Unlike LEO she does not have the back up support, weapon or training when the taser / stun gun fails. That is my best answer to your question as I do not have it in me to recommend a tool that I believe can get your loved one raped robbed or killed. To me your question is very much like asking if I would recommend you give your wife gas or kerosene to put a fire out with. As in that case I have to recommend that you give her neither.

I am a certified TASER instructor, as well as a certified permit to carry instructor in Minnesota. In my opinion, the TASER C2, requires fine muscle movements to deploy. for that reason, I would not recommend it for a defensive tool. Instead, If you are set on getting a TASER, I would recommend the X26C, for civilians.

No it is not the same as ones used by Law Enforcement Officers, but that is because the objective is different. Law Enforcement Officers must maintain control of the suspect, cuff them, and get them into a vehicle for transport to jail.

Citizen TASERs are designed to be left at the scene, and will continuously fire for 30 seconds, allowing you the opportunity to escape. TASER even replaces your unit for free when you use it defensively and provide them with a police report.

Another advantage to the TASER is that it doesn't have the lifelong consequences that a firearms has. It can be used when a firearm is not a viable solution, and if used accidentally, or negligently, it will not kill.

The disadvantage to a TASER is that it is a piece of Technology, and it can, and will be visited our friend Mr. Murphy. The TASER has a maximum range for civilians of 15 feet, (Though most all defensive uses of firearms are between 4-7 feet, so this shouldn't be an issue).

I believe that a TASER requires training and practice, just like a firearm. I think that a minimum of 10 cartridges should be shot a year to stay proficient with it. More is better. I've personally had TASER's fail 2/6 times I've deployed it. One of these was due to a miss with one prong, and the other was a poorly maintained unit that was issued to me. You do only get one shot before having to reload, but you do still have a powerful pain compliance tool because it will function like a regular stun gun.

Also, FWIW, unlike the movies, a stun gun won't cause someone to pass out for hours at a time.

A TASER is not, and should never be considered to be, a replacement for a defensive firearm. The TASER is an excellent tool, but in a deadly force situation, it is not a substitute for a firearm.

Lastly, I'm fairly new here, I've been lurking for a while, and this is my second post. I've been on other forums that beat up on police officers, and trash talk everyone who disagrees with them. I have found this forum to be a pleasant change.
