Reccos Needed
I am looking for a very Light but capable all-around solid defensive knife. The main criteria is light, thin, and easily carried. I know there are several good brands, but I am looking for specific recommendations. I am also not sure on what blade length to get or what type of blade, ie tanto, spear pt, etc. I would appreciate some feedback, thanks a bunch.

Many here will have their favorites...here's what I carry (I have two of them.)...
Plain edge...prices vary on line...search for the best deal... Kershaw Ken Onion Leek Easy one-handed opening, and with a box of bandaids you can learn to close it with one hand, too.

First off, are you looking for a fixed blade or folding knife? Fixed blades tend to be stronger, but you can run into some legal issues depending on your locale. As far as blade length goes, 3-4 inches is long enough to be useful, but not so long as to be a pain to carry (once again, check laws). If you are looking for a folder, I'd suggest either a Spyderco Delica with the Wave, or a Benchmade Mel Pardue folder.

If you're looking for really light but still what I'd consider a good SD knife I'd suggest the Spyderco Delica (2 7/8" blade, 2.3 oz). If you'd consider something more substantial but still relatively light I'd suggest the Emerson CQC-14 (2 7/8" blade, 4.2 oz).

The SOG Pentagon is what I am carrying these days and I am happy with it.
It's very quick regarding "one hand" opening & I like the AUS-8 blade.
