Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

monkey fist owner

I bought one last month at a local flea market. The salesman was an off-duty police officer. He recommended using the key end for several reasons, including the ability for law enforcement to swab the keys for DNA following an attack. The ball provides a secure grip in a clenched fist, and with the string coming out between your middle and fourth finger you won't likely drop it. It also will self extend easier when swung due to how the slip knot is arranged, providing you have enough weight in keys on the end. I have 10, so no problem there.

The device is becoming popular with law enforcement because it provides an easy mothod of pulling a set of keys out of one's pocket, if you leave the ball end hanging out. With a sidearm, a radio, etc. all hanging on a belt, it can make it difficult to get into a front pocket. For ladies, it works well having the ball hanging just out of a purse, so there is no fumbling for keys in parking lots, etc. Just grab, pull and go, and you have it in your hand ready to swing immediately if need be.

Interesting site you folks have here! I will return.

Oh, a word to the wise. When you have your keys in the ignition, be sure and hang the ball end over the gearshift out of the way. Otherwise that ball can get to swinging when you drive and the first time it catches you on the kneecap you'll know it.

I never gave monkey fists any thought. I remember tying them in boy scouts a number of years ago. I actually just purchased a monkey fist on ebay. Most likely I'll never use it for SD, b/c I'd always go for my Spyderco Delica first, but I've been wanting a new keychain for my keys. Impulse buy, woohoo!

I have carried them for years got one for each family member and showed them how to use it as a weapon. I too suggest that you hold the ball and swing the keys and what ever you have on the key ring.

I also make these as well, they are what alot of soldiers wear. It is a bracelet made from about 15 feet of 550 cord. And the buttons we use are buttons from our uniforms.

Each time a knot is made it is to remember our fallen heros. The colors represent the deployment colors we have. The button is to represent the uniform we wear. The clasped bracelet resembles the circle of friends that is never broken"
