Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

For my daily defensive carry knife I really just researched various knives that had the exact features that I wanted and the price was secondary.

Since there no specified blade length restriction in my State - I wanted a good quality folder with a non-slip handle & that was "quick and easy" to open with one hand and with a 5" blade.
That left many very high quality knives "out of the running" due to their (shorter than 5") blade length.
I finally settled on the SOG Pentagon Elite II & I'm pleased with it.
I got a pretty good deal on it for around $60. & Shipping.

Sure hope I'm not doing any brain surgery with any of mine.

If your Frost does everything you want it to do and you feel you aren't missing something, than yes, it is a good knife for you.

To some extent, $$$ equals quality. But along with quality, you are getting a guarantee against factory defects, quality of metal in blade, quality material for scales (sides of grip), if you loose a grip screw will they send you one free of charge, blah blah blah.

It does get to a point where you're only paying for the name, just like blue jeans (imho). Perhaps that is why I still want a Chris Reeve Sebenza (going on a few years now, still haven't the nerve to buy one).

Depends. Brain surgery on folks like chuckie schumer or Caroline McCArthy or Nancy Pelosi would be a snap with one of my knives.

LOL, I don't have a knife small enough for those brains.

Regards,
Saber, I'd be glad to relieve you of one of them so the whole in your head is smaller. Let me know and I'll send you my adress.

The most expensive knife I have cost about $75. Frankly I haven't found a knife higher in price that I really like and that has the features I want and need. Same reason I have $500 pistols and not $100 or $1000. The Spyderco Endura Wave and Cold Steel Recon 1 are my two best knives. Good steel, strong locks, non-slip ergonomic grip, easy and fast to deploy. These are things I look for when choosing a knife that my life may depend on one day. If they cost twice as much I would still get them. Same goes for flashlights (I would say that you are paying extra just for that Surefire name though).

I don't pay outrageous prices for my knives, but I do make sure I buy good quality knives that will last. I used to just buy cheap knives, and would have to replace them every couple of months. I have one CRKT knife that has survived School of Infantry, multiple field ops, and a deployment, and is still going strong, and that was like a 50 dollar knife. I usually stick with knives from CRKT, Spyderco, Benchmade and other companies in that price point, and have seldom had a problem with them.

I had one $10 knife. The locking mechanism broke thus allowing the blade to close on my fingers. Too dangerous for me!! I now carry a Spyderco Delica or Endura.

I carry two. One is a pretty sharp "utility" knife. The other is strictly for flesh...
