Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

Agreed. The cheapos do tend to break more easily and not last as long. Quality construction just isn't there.

I believe in a happy "in between". I avoid the $10 garbage knives, but don't really see any need in buying a $300 knife.

I believe you can get a good quality knife that will last for about 50 to 75 dollars. The only differences with the three hundred dollar knives tend to be cosmetic in most cases.

I still have them and they just returned from the factory again after being sharpened. Frankly, I need three knives like I need a hole in the head.

When it comes to something that may save my life or someone else's I try and get the best I can afford. Several years ago I was working a bad wreck where a lady was trapped in a car that was getting ready to slide over an embankment. One of the firefighters has some cheapo knife trying to cut her seatbelt. He was having to jerk the seatbelt around trying to get it cut and wasting precious time. I got him out of the way and used my Benchmade Auto Stryker which cut the belt immediatly. That fireman, as well as the others that were on the scene that day, now carry a good quality knife.

I guess since I have a bunch of knives that all cost me at least $50 or more, (a couple more than $300.00) I have to say yes, you're in the minority!

But then again, a $10.00 knife used properly is better than no knife and if it does what you want it to do, who can knock it?
